Coupe: Roof Off, Alarm On. Does it work?

As summers finally started I've taken the roof off! As it stays nice, I'm leaving it off (not overnight though). Just wondering if the alarm works properly with the targa panels out and the windows left open! Or will it just go off an awful lot?

Stu? :dddc:

Cheers,
James.

it will go off loads, te coupes have ultrasonic sensors, every bit of wind that passes through will make it go off, but if you lock the car with the key instead of the blipper then it disables this feature so you can have the roof off with no worries of the alarm going off

Mine works absolutely fine with no false alarms. Early Coupe's were riddled with false positives.

I can leave the panels out even when it is windy and it won't go off. Reach your arm in and by the time you are level with the top of the window it will go off.

The only way to be sure for your car is to try it.

i thought you'd have to press the little button that is on the box above and behind your head when you're in the drivers seat. When you pull the key out of the ignition then there's a red led coming on. If you press the button the interior sensors won't activate when you lock the car.

only until 1994 then they got rid of the button

With an ultrasonic sensor you are essentially making it useless by leaving the car "unsealed". A change in pressure is what sets the alarm off. (it's essentially a microphone) . Opening a door or smashing a window or a gust of wind will set it off. If the window is down slow movement inside the car won't set it off unless it's really sensitive in which case you'd get lots of nuisance alerts.(this is why if you have a sensitive alarm you should close the air vents if its windy)
Microwave sensing is the best way protect an open vehicle, thats why all decent convertibles have microwave sensing alarms.

I used to leave windows down and roof off on my baby with the alarm + all sensors fully on, never used to go off at all..

But ive got my clifford fitted now, once again.. still no false alerts, but if you shove your hand in the clifford will sence it.

And this is a on a 97 Coupe.

Sems things, at least on those with a post 96/retrofit alarm are ok! I've been testing mine a little, and it only went off when I leant into the car for more than a few seconds. I still take my CD's and stuff out with me, but I don't worry too much about the car itself getting nicked. I just hope the sound of a car alarm attracts enough attention to deter thieves!

I doubt anyone would take the blindest bit of notice and certainly wouldn't interviene. You just have to hope it's enough to put them off continuing.
