Please take cost to buy with out your trade in, any add on/mods you have made (eg wind stop, different wheels, different exhaust). Paint repairs, wheel refurb etc. In fact anything except routine maintenance.

So far my Su-Le is.......

Red Devil air freshener £2.59
Tax disc holder £1.99

Total £12503.88

The MGF was bought for £3700 and then needed a HG along with new head bolts, water pump, SS underfloor coolant pipes and new radiator - thankfully I did that work myself so just parts cost - possibly £300:dunno:
Then I bought a hardtop £350, had it painted black (done by a friend so just paint cost £20), new rear discs and pads £50 and a good second hand Milltek exhaust with new cat attached for £100.

The TF - purchase price £10,650 but no mods done apart from my £3.99 external temp sensor:) and seat belt guides at something like £20

Apart from my broken wheel my problems were/are very minor and do not effect the ability of the car to drive properly. That said, expect a few niggles.

MGFMad, that is an incredible price. Did you haggle a lot? How many miles were on the clock?

I called around the local garages who were very eager to sell, thought £1500 was a good enough discount to get, peanuts when compared to your £5k off though!

They had an ex-demo orange LE at the garage I bought mine from but it would have worked out more expensive for me than a new black one.

Don't worry mate. ;) When you look at the expenditure in detail a lot of it is upgrades.:broon:....having said that,.....once you get the bug, it's all too easy to give in to the 'darkside'.....

Edit : In two years and 20,000 + miles, I've had an alternator fail.

Never missed a beat otherwise..:broon:..and she's now over 7 years old and 80,000 on the clock.

Bought our F for £1500, then spent £25 crashing it at Oulton Park.
This led to the repair bill; £350 for parts (bumper, headlight, indicator, fog light, chrome grilles, number plates), £350 for spraying, metalwork & fitting, £290 for HGF repair, £270 for 4 new tyres.
Since then I've had to replace the battery (£60) too.

That totals £2845 since we bought it in August.... :yikes:

I bought mine for $14,500AU (£8,400) about two years ago with 82,000km (51,000) on the clock and while I have spent probably another $3,000AU to $4,000AU on it it has been for performance upgrades for on track competition days. I have had very few problems really only a broken gear linkage cable which was my fault during a supersprint track day. I also still have a lot of mods to do.

as you can see F/TF are a bit pricier out here

Paid AUS$20000 eight years ago for an 80000Km 4year old VVC with hard top, now worth $8000 with a 167000km. Had to weld new rear suspension turrets in $4500, head gasket $1800 Two new clutches $1600. Spent on improvements, ie big brakes,16" alloys, suspension mods, Cams and flowed cylinder head, exhaust over the years $9500 so I have a 175hp car with high mileage, which gives a lot of fun. As the car is worth next to nothing I will keep it until it drops. One thing I do not have is any corrosion or rust so the shell will out live the mechanical bits.

Bought a new MGF in February '98 ... and it crashed in July '98
Bought another MGF in July '98 (delivery Oct '98)

Most expensive modification must be the PTP 165 conversion, the complete set of powerflex bushes (one in purple and one in black (for our "MOT") ), Miltek exhaust (damn expensive in the earrly days), several brake upgrades (from std. to std. w. GreenStuff, to 280mm (drilled and solid) w. Mintex, to 302mm w. OEM). Modifications with seamless quads wasn't cheap either. About 6 sets of wheels doesn't really help to reduce the bill.

I didn't mind adding prices and creating a full list... it's now clear to me that the car costs well over £17000.

Funny thing is ... I am in the process of buying another MGF for only £500

Am i lucky or unlucky?

My MG F was inherited so cost nothing, picked it up on Sunday, and it overheated yesterday, i'm hoping it was just low on coolant as the heaters went cold before the oil temp went sky high.

have booked it in to have it looked over and fingers crossed nothing will be wrong with it as I have just driven around for an hour and over that getting boiling hot because i had the heater on full blast the oil temp stayed around 100c which i'm hoping is normal.

i think when i get some money i'll be sprucing her up a bit though

Thanks for this thread :( I'm feeling pretty bad now!

Got the car 3 1/2 years ago £3695 and have spent in the region of £4k on it since
but that includes the C service, Trophy splitter, Trophy spoiler, alcantara interior from a TF, quad stereo / dvd clear indicators, MS roll hoops, MS wiper linkage, MS bell crank, silver mk2 console, silver steering wheel, tf160 alloys, T1-rs all round, momo gear knob, AP brakes and disks, stainless mesh, tinted rear lights, coolant alarm, glass screened hood, 52mm throttle body, K&N CIS induction kit, Milltek exhaust, a bit of paintwork, new cat and flexi pipe, scoops, new badges and probably loads of other bits I've forgotten

Mind you I have recouped about £1500 by selling on the old parts etc
