Hi guys

Posted up a while ago about an on/off coolant leak ive had for about 2 weeks now, just to summarise, it only seems to leak sometimes, no particular pattern, just whenever it feels like i guess! Engine doesnt over heat, runs fine, no other problems as far as i know.
Garage couldnt even find the leak, but a few days after it showed up again ... cant figure out where its coming from.

Please see the links attached for the pics .... hopefully someone may have a better idea of whats causing it?
(the leak is to the right of the engine, you can see the white lines where its run down in the pics, but it seems like it maybe coming from just round the back or something?)

Cheers

Hmm, it's not easy to tell from the pics as it's just a stain.

However, I would say that it's either one of the following three things.

1) The inlet manifold gasket leaking and the coolant is running around.
2) Or it's the head gasket leaking externally but that's a very rare place to have evidence of an external head gasket leak.
3) It might be coming from the hose next to it which also has the bleed screw on the top of it. Infact it may even be staining from when the cooling system has been bled previously.

Can you clean the area, keep an eye on it and try to get more pics as and when it returns?

The last time it leaked was a few days ago , it seems to be coming from just behind on the right hand side, difficult to see back there though.

Car was in the garage just under 2 weeks ago, they pressure tested the system, checked for symptoms of HGF etc, they said was all ok.
They did replace the radiator however, as it was damaged.

No other HGF signs of mayo etc ...REALLY hope it isnt HGF !:irked:

Sounds like your camshaft oil seals may be leaking if you'e getting oil stains from behind the two blanking pates.

this IMO, get it changed, only way to be 100% sure its the IMG is to change it. cheap and easy to do.
I agree with you Slicky, it's the cheaper solution and also the most likely cause.

It looks like HGF.Sorry
 How can you diagnose that as HGF from those two pictures? Sorry but I don't agree at all, it's impossible to tell for certain where the leak is coming from and an external head gasket leak from within that area would be rare indeed.... It's possible (hence it being on my list) but unlikely.

I have the same problem, but now def confirmed as Inlet Manifold Gasket.
Sympton was slight loss of Coolant. Checked underneath Gearbox and found Coolant. Traced little Coolant marks untill found Coolant as shown in the Photo.

Advised to leave untill Engine cold, start Engine and then turn off after two Mins. Re checked Engine and sure enough a small trickle of Coolant running from Right Hand side of Manifold Gasket.

I have the same problem with coolant leaking down the same side of the engine. Is it worth changing the IMG? Also the garage have said it could be the water pump - is this right? Also they have qouted 600 plus vat for a full gasket change, water pump, timing belt, head skim, pressure test, full service - is this reasonable?

SAi000 did you cure the problem?

Cheers
