someone may correct me if i am wrong!

But changing the headlight from LHD to RHD on a TF is simple there is an adjuster on the lights that you switch to the other side when taking the car into another company! do a search i am sure someone did a how too.

i thought i had this saved from when i went to continent this year!

 

I know about that little mod but the problem is it only stops me from blinding other people on the road. It doesn't make the headlights "MOT Worthy" so to speak.

My guess would be it has something to do with the positioning of the lenses...

 

So what is it that not making them "MOT Worthy" i would have thought directional wise that would have surficed unless the beam is too high by your law then

 

It doesn't really really alter the direction of the beam it only clips the beam so the lights don't shine up very high.
They still point to the left...

 

My MGTF will spend 40% of its remaining life in France and this is important for me. No point in replacing the headlamps as it will be 60% on UK roads.
Keep us posted as I may settle in France eventually.

Unliess you fancy stirrping the headlight apart and looking at the lenses, you could see how these work then and if turning them about 180 degrees would alter anything

 

I know someone who imported Alfas used to do this with a similar lamp arrangement just rotate the lens by 180 degrees no idea if it'd work on a tf though

 

Yep those were my thoughts as well. Sadly new headlights are about 400 pounds....

 

Hi Michiel, here in Sweden we have an online search page for car parts from as good as every scrap yard in the country. I have put out a search for you as they go cheaper here. Mine for my TF-fronted VVC cost around £190. so let's hope there are more out there. shipping would go for around £30-40 to the NL's.

Sorry to say, no. Normaly it takes a week or so to ge an answer and now a little more than a week has gone and nothing. Dont you have a similar site in the NL's for second hand car parts? perhaps other mainland Europeans could help here? there must be something in Germany? no?

Yep I already put a message up on the Dutch equivalent of the website.

In germany they seem to sell for about € 200,- a piece and I was hoping to pay a little less than that

I just saw a german Co selling a pair of LHD for you car on Fleacbay,and hold onto your hat, they want €999 or around £950 for the pair, has anyone told these guys how much complete MGFs and MGTF's go for? My VVC cost me not a lot more than that, for the whole car!!!

 

Yeah I know... those guys don't really have a clue as to what they're selling. Rimmer Bros have them brand new for I believe 500 pounds a pair...

It wont work as the light still needs to shed an asemetrical picture, in the UK to the left and in the LHD area to the right. Turning them up side down will do no good no through 180 degrees. By looking at the way the lense is backed and so on I dont think it will work here.

MG TF Headlamps

Converting headlamps UK to European
I have now converted both headlights as I suggested above. You cannot turn the light blind plate round unless you cut off the flange, rendering it less stable under heat. I re-cut the plate, leaving the lever in the UK position. The modification is perfect. I have a .docx file with 23 photos showing how to do it all, but cannot work out how to add it to this forum. (perhaps a moderator would help ?)
