Clutch problems

Hi guys,

Firstly im pretty sure my thrust bearing is on its way but recently the biting point on the clutch has got ridiculously high but the car is still driveable! This morning when going to work the clutch was kind of sticking down when fully pressed to the floor, once brought back up an inch or so it was fine again! Does anyone know if this could be the master cylinder?

Thanks

I'd say this sounds like the usual problem of the shaft corroding and sticking in the bellhousing, if the bearing was failing it would be noisy and the biting point would be nearer the floor
And if this is the problem, the good news is it will cost very little to fix! Just some penetrating oil and a bit of wiggling

Yeah the thrust bearing is making its whirring noise! The car has been fine until yesterday when the pedal started sticking down! More annoying than anything as the clutch still works fine i jus cant push the pedal all the way down without it getting sticky :/

Apply oil to arm and lots of wiggling. If it is completely seized then sometimes a gearbox off I'm afraid.

Oil applied externally won't contaminate the clutch plate, or rather it is HIGHLY unlikely to.

Okay thanks guys ill get the airbox out and have a look at the arm tomorrow. Its not so much jamming down but like its sticky! Im in the car now and at the moment its coming back up :s jus the first inch or so if the floor it moves much slower! Im trying to only press the clutch halfway down until i can get it fixed

The pedal sticking on floor with me has occurred on both my 400 and 45. For a long time I got away with every month or so wd40/pen oil sprayed copiously where the shaft meets the bell housing with the straw, whilst someone was in the car pressing the clutch back and forth. If this technique works then great BUT in the end I had to take the bell housing out and un-seize the shaft. Its a real pain for something so small.
There is little chance of contamination as the shaft is no where near the plates.
