Hello,

I have a 2001 Connoisseur CDT Manual Desel. Its done 120k now and recently while driving its been revving up pretty bad when changing gear especially 3/4 gear. I am guessing the clutch is going but i am not sure. Has anyone else had this problem? I have had a little search on here and found alot of clutch problems but not this exact problem.

Any help would be fantastic!

sounds like a slipping clutch to me.....presuming the high reving is under load from the throttle.

if this is the case, its a gearbox out job if the clutch is at fault make sure you change the slave too (they are both inside the gearbox, and in the long term, its a false economy to change one without the other)

Thanks for the info. Thats not good news at all.

See i am only 19 and had the car for a year now..Was given to me by a neighbour and i absolutly love it. Ive never had a big problem with it untill now. I have been reading these forums over the past year alot and found that this is common to happen at around 120k.

Garage quoted my ÂŁ900 (ÂŁ700 parts, ÂŁ200 labour) for a fix but that was before he has actually looked at it..I only described the problem to him.

Would it be cheaper for me to buy the parts myself from ebay and get this garage todo it?

Thanks

ÂŁ200 for the labour is a very good price, you will be able to source the parts yourself through ebay or places such as unipart, clutch, slave, and even the master cylinder should see you with around ÂŁ200 left over from the ÂŁ700 parts price quoted.

Cost and application of Clutch parts

Re Freelander TD4 Clutch Master and Slave Cyl's. Are you sure that they are the same as used on the 75 diesel. If so, why isn't it common knowledge as there is such a vast variance on price? Have you got a part number or has each product line got their own peculiar part numbers?
look forward to you answer.

Clutch

Clutch replacement is g/box out job. 5-6 hours labour so ÂŁ200 is a good price.
Not sure how much O/E AP clutch is but you could phone E car parts Tel:- 01767 682100/900 and ask. Alternatively a genuine Borg & Beck clutch kit (2 parts) is ÂŁ99 from rsj motor factors Tel:- 01902 459001.
Am sure from other members Freelander slave is same and cheaper than Xpart. They are also on ebay for ÂŁ84. (ÂŁ119.95 from rsj motor factors)
I don't think master is same as Freelander but other members can advise. ÂŁ109.95 from rsj motor factors but also on ebay for less.
You don't HAVE to replace master at same time - it MAY be ok. However one often follows the other but as it is above clutch pedal inside car can be done seperately.
In the event the Dual Mass Flywheel is US these are ÂŁ275
from rsj but is not usually required. Can only be determined once g/box & clutch is removed.
Clutch plate must be type with circle of springs which original often did not have on earlier cars.

What are Mr Clutch like for price and service. Theoretically thay should be the experts. Any one have any I idea of their price for a manual CDT clutch replacement?
in general, major clutch centres such as mr clutch are very competetive, however, i would strongly reccommend using a garage/mechanic you know and trust, even if it costs a little more.........feedback ive recieved from people using the major clutch centres, are of the good value for money clutch change, but ive also heard a lot of people being told the flywheel/dmf, needs replacing which costs so much more.

this may, or may not be the case, but it would be a big error to omit the new dmf, if it was a neccessary change, but you would not to spend the extra, if it was not neccessary, hence using a known and trustworthy mechanic to yourself.
