Clutch lifespan

Did Rover ever specify how long a clutch should last on the R65? Mine is approaching 100k, and I don't know if I should start putting money away for a new one, or if it should still have lots of life left in it.

It feels ok, but you never know . . .

How longs a piece of string? All depends on how its driven now, how it was driven in the past, weather most of its mileage has been around the town or on motorways e.t.c....

I've recently changed a clutch on a Mondeo diesel that was on 210k on its factory clutch and dual mass. Yet my old mk2 ZR clutch failed at 22k. That was due to the release bearing exploding though.

also depends on the brand of clutch in addition to the above.

Personally i wouldn't worry about it until it starts slipping.

you may be able to spy on it with the starter motor removed but its not worth the effort of checking IMO.

what you could do to prolong its life it make sure you dont slip the clutch any more than required and pull off at lower revs which doesn't labour the car either.

yep am a brakelight larry in my stepspeed but i would rather wear out my brake bulbs that have to listen to my gearbox when in neutral or park :p, and before you say anything about the handbrake, its poocack and cant hold the car :p
but anyways to get back on topic most manufacturers make clutches to last between 60 and 90k miles with normal usage, obviously taxi drivers, rover drivers showing off their power etc may not manage that standard :)
