Clutch Failure?

Hi all,

I have just got my derv back from the garage after a cam belt change (well overdue by previous owner). But while it was in I asked them to have a look at the clutch (& linkage) as its been quite difficult to engage the low gears. First often takes a few trys to engange, and sometimes simply won't and I have to start it in second, and its taken a bit of force to get into second as well.
The higher ranges are fine, but then downshifting from 5th to 3rd sometimes grinds/ wont engage...

Naturally first thought is the clutch, but its only done 14000miles... Can it really have gone that fast? I have only had the car for the last 1500, so can't be sure how it was used beforehand, but I was told it was just for commuting on weekends...

If it is the clutch, can I get some recomendations on replacments please :) was looking at this (ebay link) but have read some very mixed reviews about Techniclutch...

Cheers guys!
Hopfully this is the last major work that needs doing, this car is running me dry ^^

next time you have the issue with it not engaging into a gear, where you can pull over and switch the engine off and see whether selecting all the gears is still as difficult as with the motor running.

if there is no change and its just as difficult this will rule-out the "clutch release" system as being at fault. for example if it is easy to select the gears once the engines off then it sound like the clutch cable has stretched or the clutch arm is partially seized where it enters the gearbox. (which could of caused the cable to then stretch for example)

Don't believe it has a cable but could be wrong. Sounds like the cylinders are on their way out. Common on ZSD's
There are no clutch hydraulics to worry about on yours. As said above, if the cable has stretched, or the clutch arm seized, this could cause the problem.

With the clutch pedal pressed down, have someone spray grease or oil onto the clutch arm shaft, while pumping the clutch pedal. This could help free up the shaft.
Cheers for all the help guys, it appears to have cleared up. Took it on a long drive yesterday, and once it was warm I red lined it up through the gears, and I'm going to guess it was the clutch arm because its absolutly fine now. =)

Cheers again, no doubt I will be back back begging for more info before you know it.
