If you dont mind a bit of work, and a bit of chopping, you could always cut the adaptor off he end of the charger, fit and in-line fuse to the positive cable, and then splice the cables with the ciggy lighter cables.

That way the charger cable which plugs into the phone will always be in the car when you need it, and if your not using it, you can tuck it behind the dash.

Its not everybody's cup of tea, but its what I would do.

the docking station has the option for the usb cable into back so could wire this into ciggy lighter so when i plug ipod into docking station in car it will charge??!
Dock at the minute just uses standard 3.5mm jack to RCA connectors so no power goes to dock.

Im thinking of modding the area around ciggy lighter to permanently install dock (at the moment its just sat infront of gear stick), any ideas?
The cable is ran through the back of ashtray and to head unit.

Any ideas or if anyone has done this would be great...photos even better

 

I was thinking of doing this as the socket is hopeless. How many amps can this handle if I wanted to put more than one charger onto it?

is this correct that its the same fuse the heater fan nor cigarette lighter work in my 97 220 diesel i checked the fuse in the engine bay its ok any ideas anyone please

Sometimes it's actually the plug and not the socket. I have an array of different ones for different devices and some fit perfectly and others want to pop out.

 

which fuse is it in the inside fusebox neither are listed on the fuse cover someone said fuse 9 and fuse 14 which are rear fog lights and engine management

 

Just do what I did and buy a genuine MG-ROVER 12v Power Socket which goes in place of the Cigar Lighter, all electrical itmes fit like a glove with no movement or blown Pink J Fuses !!!

They say that part no longer exists... Guess I have to figure something else out. Problem is that my satnav charger doesn't work with the current cigarette lighter.

 

I could try my MG-ROVER dealer for you, thats where I got mine from, it was about £8.67 or somthing daft like that !!!
