Hi guys an gals.

Ordering a pair of chrome door handles off fleabay to replace my faded and scratched black ones and remember a few weeks ago I saw on here a how-to. Anyone have a link to it...? Also anyone who has done this mod, how difficult?

Thanks

Glen.

Yeah we did this on Fi's car, it is easy but fiddly, be wary when removing the two hinge pins, as the plasic bits can stick and move with the pin.

Just in case you are unaware, they are chromed plastic by the way.
Yeahh... and be careful when removing the screw on the rear of the handle (inside the door) as i dropped one, and it lodged inside the lock mechanism, then my lock having an 'attack' when trying to lock.. going up, down, up, down, up, down then finally locking.... was alright when leaving the car, but getting the time right when getting in was a nightmare.....

finally after several days though it dropped free. =D
Yeahh and don't overtighten the two little screws, the thread housing is not very solid.
Just in case: a good replacement is an M6 x 10 mm.

Be careful with the lugs as well, but don't worry if they break. The screws are more important ...

Yeah me too, the magnetic snap-on screw driver came in handy!

i got lucky as i bought mine off smokie (bob) already inplace in anthracite door handles so i just swapped them out .....the clip holding the lock barrel in has to be in the right way round too or it wobbles about a bit
I managed to do them on my own...no problem!!

(how can you tell I'm dead proud of that!!! haha )
Yep, as others have said it's a dead easy job but time consuming and fiddly.

I found the hardest part was figuring out how the spring went back on, as I.. er.. didn't make a note of it before taking it off.. *goes to the dunce corner*

It took me about 15mins per door, from start to finish

I wondered whether that was the reason...but decided I was just very talented!!! :bgrin:

whereabouts in the country are you???
I found the hardest part was getting the U retaining clip off the drivers door lock, it took bloody ages,

It went a lot quicker once I realised I was trying to push it the wrong way. Duh.

By the way, dont let us put you off, It is easy, really.

as long as you dont drop anything, or break anything, and as space is so tight, only have one finger and a thumb on each hand.:lol
