CHG disaster!

Help please! Disaster on Wednesday. 04 plate MGTF cylinder head gasket blown. Quoted for replacement of engine £2500-£3000 (£1750 engine + £800 labour + £500 contingency incase the find something else needs replacing. Opinions welcomed or does anyone know someone who would want to buy for parts. I live in Glasgow and there are no MG specialists in this area.

Crikey, I'm sorry, but the garage is leading you up the garden path!!
£2500-3000, yeah right whatever.

Unless the engine is seized etc they are truly taking the Mick.

Change your garage before you end up paying for work you defo don't need.

I had asked around the forums for a MG specialist in the Glasgow area. One that was mentioned with good reviews and familiar with our engines is Paul McFadden in Motherwell, phone number is 01698 254 141.
I had purchased my own TF now sadly traded in from McHargs but would never have dreamt of taking it into them.
Make sure the Multi Layer Gasket is used, a new water pump fitted and new belts when he is doing the job.
Unless the engine was ran dry and warped it should be a straightforward repair.
