Just recently the check engine light has been coming on intermittently. It goes off again almost immediately, but while it is on the engine cuts out. Also the idling and sometimes becomes very lumpy sometimes. However, it is all a bit strnage because most of the time the engine runs smoothly and pulls well. It is '99 600 iLD with 138,000 on the clock. The wire from the No. 1 injector is Ok. I removed, cleaned and replaced the crank position sensor (CPS), but that made no difference. Could it be anything to do with the EGR valve?
I'm putting it into a garage tomorrow, but as the fault onlt occurs now and again I doubt they will discover anything. Any ideas? The chap at RoverLink (Widnes) told me that in 22 years working for Rover he never sold one CPS. I don't want to shell ouyt £80 for one and find out it's not that.
