I have recently changed wheels from the standard 218is wheels (5 spoke) to some 16" MG Hairpins. Will fitting these bigger wheels decrease the cars performance as i have noticed it being slightly sluggish since i've had them on.

The originals where 185/55/r15 and the hairpins are 205/50/r16.

I've got the same wheels on my car and I noticed a slight difference. I think thats why Golf owners stick with 15's even though they claim its for the 'euro look'

What I did notice is that my speedo and GPS are now bang on with the 16's - fitted 14" steels for MOT time and speedo is a few mph out again.

At least I know that im travelling at the indicated speed.

shouldnt really make it that much slower - its only going from 15s to 16s. Acceleration is slightly reduced but top speed should be slightly higher iirc.

if your tyre sizes are correct then your rolling diameter of the wheels inc tyres will be almost the same i.e. same speedo read-out and same performance
