Changing the oil in a Steptronic

First job on the new car this weekend is to change the gearbox oil as I don't know what's in there or how long it's been there. I've sourced a local supply of EZL 799 CVT fluid at a cheaper price than Rimmer Brothers but I'm not sure how much to get as I have an gearbox oil cooler (I thnk) under the bonnet. Should I get 5 or 6 litres? Also is there a separate drain plug for the cooler or will it drain when the plug is removed from the gearbox? Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

I have a steptronic and I was thinking about this link given, great link, but how about one little step more......

When you lift up the front it should help you drain more, I am sure it does, but, as the plug is situated towards the front of the car surely some oil will be caught in the box due to the front being higher. Could lifting the front and draining and before replacing the oil plug dropping the front so the car is level, maybe more oil will drain leading to a better oil change as more fresh oil will be accepted into the box?

Any thoughts? it may only be a couple of DL but better than leaving old oil in, not matter how little......

I may be out to lunch on this one, but theoreticaly.....

When changing the oil in an auto box, CVT especially, when draining you never remove all the oil. If you read in the manual, there are two figures quoted, from dry and wet, terminology may be incorrect, but oil will be left in the cylinder or pipes for the cooling. A total dry fill would be near impossible without fully stripping down and removing all traces of oil.

The guide in question was actually done by me a few years back. I followed the official guide, produced at the time. Official guides you would have thought supply the 100% correct procedure.

Since some oil will always be left in the box, in effect, when replacing oil, you are infact diluting what is left of the old stuff. To be truly thorough, repeat changes of oil would be the only way to dilute the old oil down.
