Central Locking Problem

Quick question before my problem... when I press the lock button the doors lock and the indicators flash once, press it again a few seconds later and it locks again and the indicators flash three times... this isn't mentioned in the handbook but I assume it's internal deadlocks on the second press?

Anyway, just got in and locked the car... pressed it the second time and there was an incredible whining from the passenger side front door... so I unlocked the car to check all was fine... an awful crunching sound from the front passenger door, and that door didn't unlock... locked and unlocked the car again and it worked... so I locked the car again, it locked fine, pressed the lock button for the second lock and the passenger side made the awful crunching sound again, but the car was all locked so I just left it and came inside.

Anyway, any ideas what this could be? It doesn't sound healthy... and the fact it didn't unlock is concerning me... I don't want to be stuck somewhere with it refusing to lock!

Working again this morning, still making the awful whining sound though, so probably a good idea to get it replaced!

Any idea how much a new motor will be and if it's an easy job I could do myself?

hit and miss from a scrapyard - need a guaranteed one. (had three for my coupe before one worked!)

off topic but the early bubbles didn't have this feature, only the later cars got the flash indication

it just appeared in late 97, early 98. IIRC they were always CAT 2. :dunno:

The newer 5AS ecu gave the indicator flash, courtesy light control and passive remobilisation.

It was introduced on 98MY cars.

i had the same problem with my 25 but they sed i needed a new latch not a motor? hope this helps

The latch and motor is one assembly and cannot be bought separately.
Once they make that noise just bin it, scrap yard ones are a price hiked up the last time I heard, and will they last any longer ? I would bite the bullet tbh.

I have a n/s one sat here for a job FQJ000680PMA cost me £113.90
Trinity also tell me the o/s one is on back order and is rarer than hens teeth.

Ouch, that kinda makes me glad mine's had an aftermaket CL solution fitted - i replaced both the back door motors for less than a tenner

I got my replacement from a scrappy. Quite impressed by the price actually, managed to get a 2004 manufactured one for £35
