I've just purchased a MG TF today and it was delivered while I was at work. So I got home to try it, I opened the door with the fob. Inserted the key and turned and it refused to turn over. It gave an interior warning sound and until I took the key out. I went back to the manual in case I missed anything and then tried various different options.

Can anyone help?

In the absence of more authoritive replies' I offer you a welcome and moral support.
I only have an F so these comments may not extend to your TF.
Is the red immobiliser light flashing on the dash after you opened with the fob? Needs to be off.
I'd try re-syncing the fob and car by rapid pressing of fob button a number of times next to vehicle.
Some one more qualified member will be along soon to help.
Good luck.

When you say refused to turn over do you mean there was nothing at all was there a clicking noise? the interior warning sound, what do you mean, as in a beeping or something else? bit more info required me thinks to be able for anyone to give a more detailed answer to your issue

I'm sure you played about with pressing the buttons on the fob again while turning the key, but just in case...

Did you unlock the car, get in and try to start it straight away?

Your post just reminded me of way back when I first collected my car, stopped to put fuel in and then it wouldn't start when I got back in - Nobody had told me I would have to press the fob button again to enable to car to start after it had been stood.

You more than likely have it fixed by now.
But I couldn't understand the beeping you are on about.
My TF if you press the button to open the door, it only goes chunk as it unlocks, if I mess around with the button the alarm goes off, if I open the car with my key, I wait for the alarm light to stop flashing, then start the car, if I try starting the car with the light on, or flashing the alarm goes off.
The only chiming sounds I get is when I leave the lights on and open the door, did the last owner leave your lights on flattening your battery?

The beeping is the alarm system thinking that it is being tampered with, often due to the fob becoming out of sync with the car, one of my fobs is in that state at the moment.

Well you learn something every day, I've never had any beeps from the alarm system.
I've had the light flashing fast (alarm has been activated) then tha alarm sounding the horn when I attempt to start the car, but no beeps.

The most common reason for the two-tone bleeping from the alrm ecu is that it has not recieved the disarm signal from the fob transmitter to switch off the immobiliser. There is a stimulator ring around the ignition barrel which generates a signal when the ignition key is inserted and turned; this stimulates the fob to transmit the disarm signal which tells the alarm ECU to send the disarm code to the engine ECU.

If the battery in the fob is getting weak, or if the fob is too far from the ignition barrel (it needs to be quite close, not much more than an inch), the fob doesn't get stimulated to transmit the signal, and so the immobiliser remains active. When you turn the key to the start position, the unit beeps to tell you that the immobiliser has not disarmed and the car will not start.

"inches", "stimulated", "signals" sounds a lot like foreplay for cars
