hi

when in my engine bay today i looked down to the driveshafts and other bits and i saw a part with 26 written on it ?

was this a factory thing or was this part replaced in the cars life ?

cheers.

When I was at the car factory the operator had a stamp that he (or she)would mark the job sheet . They would also mark the part they had fitted with their number. Thus any errors could be traced back at final inspection.

so it could be nothing

just saw a yellow number 26 written on it and thought it was maybe something bad .

cheers.
hi

can anyone confirm this number in the yellow writting is a factory thing ?
all i want is for someone to comfirm that this is normal for rover .
im hoping its nothing to worry about and its just rover .

the car has a lacquer line when you push the trim back aswell but thats just rovers bad paint i think as its picking off also.
well all the bigger parts i've got from the scrapyard were marked with some kind of baby poop pen (never comes off... sticks like s*** to a blanket)
but on both my cars, the inside of the bumpers have had writing in them, and the MG was perfectly straight when i got it... no signs of ever being hit.
so could just be normal.

it shouldnt have a line, the shells from the factory should be painted bare, i doubt they would mask everything up.
also if its peeling that could (most probably) be down to bad prep work.

its like a golden.yellow written 26 so i hope its just factory marking and nothing been damaged in the past .

think it might be the cross member or suspentions arms . with the writing on it.

will have a proper look and see but i think its fine as the car has full service history.
My rear engine crossmember has the number 65 on the passenger side below the coolant expansion container. My car is a straight undamaged 2001 35000 mile example.
At one time I worked on the assembly line at rover in the body plant at cowley. We used a similar practice with job cards on the car bodies.

I took the spoiler off a ZR tailgate yesterday, he had a blue "26" underneath it. It's perfectly normal for parts to be marked in this way. Peel back some of the trim and you may find notes and all sorts doodled in marker pen :)

i will stop being worried about it now if its normal and everyones car has these same marks .

sure mines is on the driver side of the rear cross member .

thanks for everyone reassuring me that its normal :)

cheers.
Might be a good idea to collate some of these numbers for wednesday night.
might just try that haha.

think what i was worried about was the fact it had like a number written in a a yellow colour on a part and i never thought it was ment to be like that but it must have been stupid rover lol.

glad its nothing .

cheers.

The shells are painted bare, but sometimes you will have a panel with sub standard paint, Then the body would be masked up to respray the sub standard panel.
took the door seals off the passenger side yesterday... there's a patch 2-3 inches long unpainted on the seal, guessing it had some sort of marker for the robots to see where to paint.
