Hi all,

Still having problems with my idling, so removed the battery lead last night to hoping reset the ecu. However, now I cant get into my car.

When I put the battery lead back on, touching the button on the fob, it locked the doors, after pressing the button four times in qucik rapid presses. So, thinking all would be ok, I then removed the battery for the night.

Come out this morning, put the battery in, the try to press the button 4 times, door wont open. Car locked. So, I remove the battery, get into the car via the boot as the drivers door lock doesnt work due to me fixing the central locking motor last weekend. ( I didnt try the lock with the key :-()

So,

1) How do I get the EKA / code for the alarm door ?? Do I need to go to Rover ? or if I give someone here the vin / reg number, can someone get the security code for me ?

2) How do I remove the door panel if the door is shut and locked ? I cant open it from the outside due to the lock not working, and its dead locked inside.

3) Idling. I'm so fed up with this. Ive replaced everything, all sensors, all stepper motors, CTS, etc. But it still hunts from 500rpm, to 13oo rpm. Will reseting the ECU help ? Do I need to go to Rover ??

I have this problem and it makes me bark in anger at it.. I can feel the dodgy idling through my seat and steering wheel at traffic lights etc etc.. mine goes up and down between 900 and 1200 though

yeap, steering wheel starts to vibrate as the engine sutters around 500rpm. Im so pissed off with it as Ive replaced nearly everything.
Now, to make matters worse, in an attempt to sort my idling, Ive now locked myself out ofthe car ! The thing is fighting me and winning :)

So, tonight, IVe either going to get the AA out, or try to pull the panel off the drivers door whilst its closed. To be honest, I will call the AA, as knowing how the panel comes off, Im going to rip the panel due to the end screws on the side that I cant see.

Dont they use some sort of slide metal ?? Down the window ??

Im thinking of getting one of those tune up company's around to look at trhe car. Not sure if they have the computer equipment to diagnose a rover. Anyone else tried ??

I thought that the key fob and alarm/locking/ECU would re-sync if you took the power away from either. I hope so because my fob's battery is getting low and I've only got the one!

Anyone?

Right, Got the AA around tonight. The central locking motor had seized up, as I had to cut into the panel, using a knife, then with a screwdriver and hammer, break off the motor part. I could then open the door :-(

Now on to the alarm balls up. No matter what I tried, the aa man and I couldnt unalarm the car.

I tried with the battery out of the fob for 5 mins, then back in. I tried shutting both doors, ignition on, then press the button on the fob, then I tried disconnecting the battery -- terminal, then put it back on, and press the fob button 4 times.

The car thinks its alarmed and everything I do sets the hog off. So Ive disconnected the horn now.

I havent got the damn Rover code, and am sending my brother off to a rover dealer tomorrow.

So, any ideas chaps ?? how do I use this code ?? Im in real crap now. Not only have I got bad idling, Ive got a broken central locking motor, cut panel, a car that wont start, and a horn that keeps going off, and no alarm code, and two non working fobs now as Ive taken the bats out of them. :-(

Im not using a citroen ax diesel to go to work, have you lot ever tried that !!! Its terrible !! HELP HELP HELP

If you go to your Rover Dealer with your VIN number they will charge you £15 to log onto their main computer to get your security details. If they fob you off demand your rights that they do it as it tells you in the Rover Handbook to go to your Rover Dealer with your details. I have done it for the same thing thats how i know it costs £15

The EKA procedure should be in the handbook. We've got rid of our 400 so I can't tell you from looking at ours (and the 800 doesn't use it).

Buy a Ford.
Yeah ...my sister has an escort with central locking that dosent work, and you cant get in the drivers door with the key (because they have dodgy barrels)so she has to climb across the passenger seat, apparentley its a common ford problem she tells me,the escorts especially, you have to cut off a peice of metal welded inside the door put there to stop car thieves getting in, just to fix it.The thing is,if you have to push it to a garage to get in it just so you could nick it I suppose ford have got the security sorted then. And my sister and brother in law still swear by fords ..or is it at them!:rotflmao:

used to have an escort with the same problem - L reg - it only takes about 20 mins to change the lock barrel, its very straight forward once you get the door card out.

they used to cost about £15 if you dont mind having different keys.
