Hi guys been having problems, bought a timing belt kit fitted it and the belts whining like its too tight, the belt even feels really tight but yet i have the notch lined up with the metal bar so i really dont understand whats wrong, anyone any ideas its a 1.4 16v 2003 25

I did originally think it was because i turned the tensioner clockwise instead of anti clockwise but i redone and its still the same :(

How wide is the belt?

The auto tensioner belt is 26mm wide with 145 teeth, the manual tensioner belt is 23mm wide with 143 teeth.

Is it possible that you have fitted the smaller belt and this is the reason it's too tight?

Hi i had to measure the belt in order to get the right kit and i double checked the width when i got it, definately the right width belt 26mm one with the auto tensioner

prob one of the bearings on either the tentioner or the waterpump
Tensioner is brand new aswell, i would of said that aswell but the belt feels really tight aswell and there was no noise before hand

can u twist the belt between the crank and the exhaust cam 90 degrees. if u can its fine... if u cant u have installed it wrong. just because somthing is new doesnt mean it is faulty did u check the tentioner and make sure it was fine b4 installing??? what about the replacement water pump when u did the belt?

I know u dont have to replace the waterpump but 99% of people find that if they dont they can then experience problems with it.

No cant twist it 90o degrees, the belts 100% the right one and the only thing i replaced was the tensioner it could be possible its faulty, il try removing it and fitting the old tensioner to see if it sets the belt at a different tension, i didnt replace the water pump as i dont plan to keep the car so less expense the better

Just exchanged the tensioner so im hoping this is the problem
