I recently purchased a very low mileage V plate 400 XLi. 24.000 miles. My mate reckons that despite the low mileage it may be worth changing the Cam Belt as sometimes with such low mileage the belt can become slightly misshapen and does not fit as snug as it could. Anybody heard of this before and should I be worried.

what engine is this ? In general it should be fine upto 60K unless it's the original belt then it may be time to change it

Either way, Emps is right - belts will deteriorate with time regardless of low miles. If it's not shown as having been done in the history, get it changed - it's not worth the risk of 16 bent valves on an otherwise good, low mileage engine.

Thanks for this. Getting the message be wiser to change than risk it. Any ideas of anticipated costs
