It's an all too common problem for our favourite coupe's but recently mine has been leaking more than ever before.

Steps already taken:

Receipt in service history for recall fix on rear screen.

Silcone sealant applied to light clusters.

Silicone sealant applied to boot seal.

Silicone sealant applied to side vents (behind boot liner sides).

Rear screen re-fitted in summer 2010 (bonding had failed, screen was held in by the top edge only!)

Following the screen re-fit I found a leak at the top corner, it was running down the inside of the screen! I sealed this with some matic/putty stuff I obtained froma screen fitter. It's bit like blue tack, but black and stickier.

I also applied this black-tac over the screw clips at the bottom of the screen which were the focus of the recall I believe.

I removed the parcel shelf and found there was a drip from the c-pillar onto the metal below the shelf coming in just below the heated screen connector. I thought this was from a bad screen seal.

I appliead a continuous bead of silicone, internally, to the top and sides of the screen, yet still the water came in, even at the point where I had applied the sealant. Closer inspection revealed a gap where the panels meet. The water was inside the c-pillar!

I proceeded to remove the c-pillar covers to investigate further, which unfortunately required the removal of the seats and side panels too. :irked:
I found some corrosion on the inside of the body at the roof channel join I reached through the hole and sure enough my leak was from the panel joint in the roof channel!

I removed the trim, and the clips, and poured a little water into the channel, a few moments later and a drip would appear 2/3 of the way down the c-pillar. A stroke of silicone later, and I think I have finally sealed my leak. :D

So if you're coupe boot is filling with water and you've exhausted all the traditional entry points, try here. I have attached a photo of the area in question.

The rear screen is prone to leaking,if you remove the plastic trim ftom around the glass as i did recently,i found a lot of muck underneath that had worked its way in and over time it traps the moisture around the seals and eventually rust, i did have a small leak in that area but a god clean round with some soapy water and a stiff brush removed the muck,a bit if sealant and job done, no leaks since.
Its the annoying thing with coupes, too many weak areas for moisture ingress james.

the number of problem areas that make the back of the `Tomcat leak' is created as a result of the unusual design, which is a bit like a hatch back car but without the lift up tailgate door!!

so for the water that gets onto the top of the car to drain away lol, it goes into the `glass panel roof gully', then into the the `black plastic trimmed' runaway groove behind it, the water next goes down around the rear screen, into the boot lid groove with the seal around it, along the tops/sides of the back light units, then finally the water runs over/behind the back bumper and away onto the floor... few that was a mouth full and took some working out too....

another area that can cause problems is cleaning, pressure washers or a car wash is a real `no no', as it swamps the boot seals... (also the boot spoiler will get battered by the fierce water hitting it, `a side issue point')

this leaking, also ties in with the rear window/ back shelf suffering from condensation build up in wet/winter weather, again its an ongoing job of wiping it down from damp and re protecting the metal areas as required......

also `Rover were a bit tight on the amount of paint they used on the internal area of the body shell', so a re- coat of all the boot area, to better protect the metal and reduce any rust build up created with age is a good plan...

P/s there is always worse to deal with, if anyone has ever owned a `kit car', the interiors are as wet as a sponge as well lol.....
