Boing, Boing, Boing....

Wondering if anyone can help me. My moms 75 has been making a boing'ing noise from the n/s/f corner ever since she had it nearly a year ago but its gradually getting worse. It deffinatly sounds like something to do with the spring and does one "boing" per full circle of the steering wheel when locking it either way. The spring is not snapped and it passed the MOT fine with no advisories.

Now funnily enough i've not long bought a ZT-T and now mines making the exact same noise all beit alot quieter. Mines just passed the MOT to.

I've had the wheels off both cars and on visual inpection theres no obvious signs of anything wrong and theres no play in anything.

It does make the noise now and again over bumps to but its mainly when steering on the spot or at low speeds.

Could it be strut top bearings?

Hi,

May well be off the mark here, but i used to have a Mondeo which did exactly the same thing. Thought maybe i had a spring broken. Turned out to be a large stone stuck at the base of the spring and that was what was causing the noise. Worth a look perhaps?

Regards,

Dave.

Hi i was thinking the same but when the strut bearings are worn the sound is usually a cracking sound, could be weak shocks? yet another funny noise, I've had one could not find out what is was and its disappeared, the advice i was given because its something that you can-not put your finger on is to leave it and wait for it to show itself, steve

Does sound like the top strut bearings. They are resisting turning under load and then suddenly give and that is when they make that "boing" .

Strut top bearings would be my guess too.

It cost me £300 for both to be renewed earlier this year, although, to get onomatopoeic about it, mine "clunked" rather than "boinged".
