blockage in cooling system

Hi
my mgf which I bought earlier in the year as a restoration project has hit aproblem..
I bought it knowing it had a failed head gasket, which i replaced and did cambelt and water pump at the same time all went well and i started it up ...

water after a few min boiled in the reservoir and after a bit of fiddling thought it might be a air lock as the radiator was not getting any warm water... stripped the radiator out to fliush it through and found it clear.. put the hose pipe in the lower pipe and water went through and into the reservoir....BUT when i put it in the other pipe the one on the left as you stand at the front looking at the radiator coming off the top... it seems blocked... so took the flexi pipe of in the engine bay where it comes from under the car and flushed it through.. thats clear but when i put the hose on the metal pipe which bends around the back of the engine under the inlet manifold ..... nothing water will not go through it..... im not sure now what to do have i got to strip all the inlet manifold of to get to where this pipe goes or is there anything else i can try....

Are you taki g about the metal pipe that goes around to the thermostat if so it will not flush through untill the thermostat is open if you have to remove it its fiddly and can be removed with out removing the manifold

have opened all the bleed screws......there's 3 of them

i have opened the bleed screw on the Rad and the one under the windscreen in the bonnet....where is the third please????

On those pipes you say are blocked if memory serves me correctly http://www.mgfcar.de/bleed/bleed_nipple1_.jpg .....I always find mouth over expansion bottle and blowing helps to expel excess air.....mind you, you will need someone else available to close the bleed points when doing it

i never bled from the third bleed point am wondering if that is the reason or whether the thermostat was not opening to allow the coolant to flow though i will have to put the rad back on tommorow and see what happens

Bleed all 3 points starting from the rad and work your way back to the engine bleed point then try running the engine make sure tne heater is set to hot most of the time you o ly have to bleed once but some members have had to do it twice or more to get all the air out
