big crash i am afraid

i just wish i hadnt got up this morning... firstly a lady never saw me on a dual carriageway and i had to slam my brakes on to stop her taking my front wing with her..... then just 100 metres further up the road from where that woman drove into on the island a couple of years back, i found myself overtaking a couple of slow cars with a smart fourfour behind me, so i moved over the left lane to allow him to pass.... but he never.... he waited until i was jsut about to get onto a small island and he tried to overtake me as i approached it....tehn he proceeded to cut me up and use my lane to make his entrance and exit straighter....i proceeded to try and miss hitting him, span my car and as i attempted to get the car back,, span it the other way, then back again straight into a kerb, over the kerb and bouncing off a fence spinning me back onto the road and doing another 180 spin, coming to a rest across both lanes.

luckily, i smashed a fence which protected me from hitting a tree, but unluckily every single car who was following kindly didnt bother to even slow down to see if i was okay... the car which caused the accident merrily drove off, it was a silver smart fourfour brabus with a number plate of T5 NKS, so if anyone in cannock area sees this car, please feel free to torch it ;)

got recovered to friarsgate and teh car is awaiting a check to see whether teh damage is purely jsut a smashed front bumper, or whether the impact did any serious hidden damage to teh suspension or something... then i spent a good couple of hours in the police station waiting for a copper to allow me to give them the details of the crash.

problem is, nobody stopped. :eyes: plenty of witnesses, but nobody bothered to pass details on so, although the police will be calling on the place of work of this car owner, it will undoubtedly be my word against his.:eyes:

i must say steve marsh at a-plan and lucy at a-plan were phenomenal. i was well shaken and in a daze and wasnt sure of what or who to call, so i called steve on his mobile ... it was 7.30am, but he still answered and although he wasnt in work that day, he took it upon himself to get someone to call me to get teh necessary details even before the office opened, and i was then recovered in a timely fashion.

since the adrenalin has died off, i am now well shattered, and jsut nervous as to what the acident report will come back with stating how much teh damage will be.

Bloody hell Deano,
What a **** head just driving off like that, at least your ok though.
Just wait untill your cars sorted and go and find him and torch his car, you'll feel better for doing it yourself
hope the damage is only surface mate.

You were lucky mate!

I know its not nice, but the most important thing is that you are ok. There are far too many prats out there on the roads today, and i have to say i am appalled that nobody stopped to see if you were ok.

Good luck with the car mate....you never know the boys in blue may just get a result yet.

Harsh!! Similar thing happened to me in my RX-7, unfortunately there was more damage than first thought and it was ÂŁ4k to fix - thank God for a valuation from the Owners Club!

Best to regroup, and get out driving asap though, even in another car. Amazing how much you can get spooked by just a few days off after a crash.

Incidentally, there's a Pistonheads member in Staffordshire with a silver Fourfour Brabus. His plate is blanked in the photo but if its him i'm really surprised as he's a top bloke normally. I may quietly email him and ask if that's his plate...

Ouch

Thats really bad news DEANO how many times does that happen. Prats like that on the road who cause the accidents then just bugger off. But as long as your OK thats matters, because at the end of the day you can always replace a car, you can't replace the person.

Awwww mate. Hope the motors ok!! :sad2:

(I would say "Hope you're ok" but you're posting so it's obvious you are. )

When do you expect to hear back from the garage? :(
Got my fingers crossed that it's just the bumper fella! :broon:

Oh, and if you feel the need to organise a group outing to the numpty with the (not so) smart car's house, just say the word. :naughty: :D

i think the wheels are okay... the kerb didnt look too high so potentially i think i may have subconsciously got off the brakes when i realised i was heading for the kerb and therefore the fence, so i may well ahve allowed teh wheels to jsut roll over teh kerb.rather than plough into them and then onto the fence. regardless, teh road was complete grease, so even if i had brakes on fully, it would have made no difference... but then again, i cant remember, so i may be lying, and i did infact haev my brakes on all the time.:dunno:

cheers guys... i am fine. jsut feel a bit shattered after teh adrenalin rush etc. the front bumper did a superb job of cushioing the job, i just hope no further damage is being uncovered...in a way i wish i hadnt tried to miss the guy, but if i had hit him, hten i would be in jail about now for lamping him and probably be done for GBH or something.

even a woman in an 05 light blue tf didnt stop who i have seen several times around that area this last few weeks.i noticed her side indicator had popped out and was going to put it back for her if we had stopped at teh ligths ahead, but not now, she just merrily drove past.

the problem was, the dual carriageway island (its a 40 zone) is rarely used by two cars, so nearly every single car cuts across teh main section of the road, so the outer area hardly gets used... then when i went into to miss this car, it was like being on ice. no control and the front swapped with the back extremely quickly... i would say i did about 3 opposite spins in a distance of about 15-20 metres... then teh fence bounced me about 5 metres sideways and i ended up sideways nearly blocking both directions.... even teh guy who had to stop as i rolled into his lane didnt even bother to actually stop to see if i was okay... thats one of the things which has really got my goat.

Aww this sucks Deano but you are in one peace and the car will get repaired. The thing that shocks me the most about this thread is the fact that another TF owner didn't stop :wtf: she obviously doesn't post on these forums, as i can't ever imagine anyone here would pass an accident involving another MG without at least stopping to see if there are any parts they can salvage...

I know the whole thing must still be very raw but any chance of a few pic's...... :getcoat:

Arse mate. Glad to hear you're ok but really gutted about the car and the lack of anyone stopping to check you were ok. That kind of thing doesn't surprise me these days which really is quite sad. Still, the main thing is that you're ok :broon:

Oh no Deano thats horrible. Your faith in human nature must be zero. I am so sorry to hear about the car and you must be really shaken up. I agree that you should drive as soon as you can though, it is really spooky even then but the sooner you do it and get it over the beeter for you. Its only now that I am beginning to get my confidence back after my lorry incident, it can take a wee while. Good luck with the car Deano, and I hope you get him good!!!! he deserves it.

As everyone has said, the main thing is you've walked out of it ok - as for the Smart driver and everyone who witnessed it and passed without stopping should be ashamed of themselves.

A couple of years back I had to swerve an oncoming van on my side of the road on a blind corner that put me and my 75 in a ditch. The person following the van stopped and helped me get out of the ditch and even pulled my car out for me whilst the police arrived. There are some good people still out there so we dont have to give up hope yet!

Best of luck getting it sorted and hope the Police are able to track this person down and get a truthful statement out of him/her.

the driving again issue isnt a problem.... would take a lot to knock me off my course... i'll be off to work again tomorrow, albeit in a rover 400, but never the less.

the police had all the details about the car and the owner, it is a company car for a company relating to the name the plate is supposed to represent T5 NKS = TONKS.

Really sorry to hear this news, I hope your cars sorted without to much expense.

As for the swerving and missing the Smartmobile I think I would have done the same even though justice wise you may have been better off hitting him. If its any consolation it does sound like you handle the spin well though.

The instinct to avoid hitting others is just so strong. They say you should never swerve to avoid hitting an animal lest swerving causes further damage to other cars or pedestrians instinct however, just takes over. Anyway, I digress.

Hope the **** does the right thing and owns up.

Sorry to hear about that mate some people can be real a***holes i hope somebody who saw it happens does the right thing and tell the police what they see and the other driver gets what they deserve !

Gutted for you mate, so sorry to hear a) the car is busted, and b) that nobody had the compassion to stop and see if your limbs were still attached. (For the record I always stop since I am a nurse .... ) I hope the police at least take on board that the driver of this other car left the scene of an accident, and therefore surly has a guilty conscience. Glad the insurance co came through for you. Take it easy this evening, and if you get any neck twinges make sure you get seen by your GP.
