Ford Escort RS Turbo:

Engine
Type: CVH
Capacity: 1596cc
Bore/Stroke: 79.9mmx79.5mm
Compression ratio: 8.2:1
Max Power: 132bhp@5750rpm
Max Torque: 132 @ 2750rpm
0-60: 8.2 seconds
1/4 Mile: 16.8 seconds
Max Speed: 128mph
Back in those days, that sorta power figures were really fast. Not much about with that power in those days. You can easily boost the power on those RS's. Higher stage turbo, superchipping it as Turbo's respond very well to them etc.

What a load of old rubbish some of you are spouting.. lol

How many of you have owned a tuned up Escort RS turbo..??.. Not many I bet..!!..

Mark3, chipped, stage turbo, 165bhp top end of 146mph 0-60 6.3sec… LMFAO

Wheezy old heaps lmfao more fun to drive (and you have drive them with the amount of torque steer they produce) than any Rover and that is coming from a MG driver..

Get a grip on realty, slag them off after you have driven a good one…. Funny when you can get them to do 0-60 under 4.5 seconds..

I agree that good examples are not bad, but finding a good example now the baseball cap brigade has got there hands on them proves more and more difficult!

I still don't see how you can get one to 60 in 4.5 seconds, unless it's being towed by a jaguar xj220!

Yes you can see a few ultra fast ones in dead head mags like max power but i was refering to the standard item. They are poor handling ( since when was torque steer a GOOD thing?), torque steer is not fun, the truely skilled driver would find it frustrating. You always see them wrapped around trees. I find it funny Max power think they are better handling than a 306 GTI-6 , that really does say it all, because like all 80's fords they flatter to deceive.
They are rusty, like all escorts of that age (rust speed is the only truely fast thing about them ). The engine note is pitiful, want a really good sound try a tuned CRX vtec (160bhp with no turbo-standard LOL).
I would drive a good example if there were any, escort + good = Impossible. Even the cossy wasnt that good compared to its rivals(plus it was actually a sierra underneath anyway )
What about everthing else (other than speed)? safety? space? Quality ? LOL The only good thing about them is they are tunable, but why bother ?

i've heard nothing but nad news from rs turbo's. turbo seals blowing, gaskets blowing, over heating, gearbox whine and diffs breaking. sounds like a K really  apart from the turbo :err: 0-60 in 6.3 seconds when modded to death by boy racer? 220GSi Turbo 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. STANDARD :bgrin: bye bye Fezzy :dddc:

They probably do handle quite well, i don't doubt that what so ever. But i'd be scared to death driving one in the wet.
