When driving my TF I found that the steering was way too light and you couldnt really feel the road.
I fitted in a switch bridging the +cable leading to the steering epas unit.

When I'm in a carpark or have to do some maneuvering or in slow traffic I switch on the power steering on.
When on the move it is switched off giving a much better driving experience.
You can feel the road and vastly reduce understeer on corners.
When switched off, at speed it is not heavy.

Could this switch be fitted on the switch panel of the car, it would be like City mode on my Wife’s Panda?
I used an old fog light switch that fitted nicely under the heater controls.
I dont know about the Panda as this only works for EPAS,,, (Electronic Power Steering System)
All you are doing is Switching off the assisted steering

I have just had a look, if you do it on Panda fit the switch to the power lead of the motor control unit.
DON'T cut the power to the torque position sensor as this will cause erratic steering or shuddering
On the Panda the steering warning light will come on when you disable the control unit.
Maybe a good thing as you can see when you are in heavy mode

The Panda has it as standard, there is normal mode and if you press the CITY button the steering become lighter and turns more quickly. Yes the Panda has EPAS, I would not dare fiddle with Mrs JoCoLos car but am happy to try it out on my MGF. I noticed when I was breaking an old MGF a while back the unit is made by Mitsubishi. I have it as a spare in my shed as well as a spare ECU. I have never needed either.

Thanks for the link, it shows a better method than I used,
I'll do a quick rewire over the weekend.
I found out about the better response by accident when I attended a Castle Combe track day.
Half way through the day my EPAS packed in, but I continued having fun on the track.
The old TF hugged the track so much better without Epas,
I replaced the EPAS controller then fitted the switch giving me the best of control.
