BBC have just broadcast that a deal may be announced tomorrow which has the backing of the trade unions, for MG Rover. They didn't name the people behind the bid but mentioned the rescue of the SAIC deal so I presume it must be the David James one. Possibility of up to 1,600 jobs. No more information yet, will have to wait for tomorrow I suppose but hopefully, just maybe things are looking a bit brighter...

there was a report on this on 5 live earlier tonight.

Suggested longbridge would be retained for R&D with the possibility of a new model being made there in the future.

Also suggested that this was far from a done deal but the head of SAIC wuld be flying in for talks later this week.

However some other sources seem to be suggesting that a potential SAIC deal with a british consortium has colapsed.

Have the BBC got their wires crossed and is it going to be a a nejang or whatever they call thermselves takeway that is announced today?.

Nothin will apparently be announced today. The PWC Press Conference has been cancelled... according to another thread which I can't immediately find.

But yes, I did hear the BBC report as well. As one of the bidders themselves admitted 'God only knows what's going on' :err:

Personally, I don't know what to expect... seems like smoke and mirrors at the moment.

It all seems to be changing by the hour !

David James is now out of the picture as SAIC have rejected his plans, it seems that SAIC prefer Martin Leach's plans which are also backed by TGWU.

Nanjing have also denied that they will shift everything to China and have stated that their plans involve R&D and manufacturing at Longbridge.

So really (and if either party suceeds) its a win-win situation for us fan's... Car making WILL continue at Longbridge, (hopefully with no BL-esque Styles of (mis)management)
