Check the sat nav drive to make sure the red light flashes and goes out once the ignition is off and car is left for a few mins with the boot open only. If the light stays on then that is what is draining the battery, this happened to mine after water ingress. It is a common source of battery drain problems. The best thing is to unplug it or replace it if this is the case.

Reply in other thread please don't start multiple threads asking the same question, patience is a virtue and people will help when they can and see your problem.

thanks for the heads up, next question then is how do i unplug it??

Based on the symptons mentioned, open boot and check if the navigation computers red light is on - should go off within a minute or so - don't open or close anything whilst waiting for it to power down. If the light doesn't go off suggest it might well be faulty, best idea would be to disconnect it and see if that sorts out the battery drain problems.

Oh and welcome to .org

You will need some radio extraction keys or use small screwdrivers in the four holes in the front fascia. Release the clips and slide the unit out of the bracket. Then push the black ecuring lcoking part from right to left and the plugs will then pull out.

The unit is held in by four clips you'll need to get or make keys to remove.

If you look at the front you will see four holes two on either side using a set of keys in the holes will release the clips. Once out there should be two plugs plus an antenna cable to disconnect.

Give me a min and I'll get some photos up to show what I mean.

EDIT: See Simon's beat me however if you still want a couple more of the actual unit and key's etc I'll still post in a mo.

thanks, you are the dude! I'll try this once I've charged the battery... again!
hi simon, sorry, am a cretin, thought i'd posted on wrong model forum (V8) so that's why i reposted... promise it won't happen again. jim, thanks for the info!

 Not a cretin mate everyone makes mistakes, just things to need to be said so people know for the future thats all. It just makes more work for the mods of the site moving threads and merging them etc. We do get a lot of people who post and repost if they don't get an answer in minutes sometimes it takes time.

Having said all that you won't find a better place to get help with your car than this forum, also update your profile with car and location details as ther emay be people local to you that can help you out and also saves peopl aksing what engine, year etc the car is when your asking for help and saves you from keep typing this info out aswell.

Were all here to help, oh and I should probably have said :welcome:

Just to help a bit more a few photos - click on the thumbnails to enlarge.

I found that the unit can be a little awkward to remove - needs "jiggling" a bit lol.

Ta Simon - I took rather a lot for a E46 widescreen upgrade "How To" which I've not got round to doing yet.

Cheers

Does your car have the full highline audio with the TV etc??

Where is the whirring noise coming from? The sat nav drive or somewhere else?
