Auto XS Vehicle OBDII Fault Code Reader

Hi - has anyone used this fault reader or similar on their MGTF or MGF. Generally, are OBDII readers any good? One shortcoming, mentioned in the listing is that this device will not diagnose faults with airbags or braking systems.
Thanks in advance.

All you can expect from a a cheap generic OBD11 reader is to be able to read and reset error codes. Live data is also useful.

If you need anything more then you are looking at something like a Pscan.

Chris is right, pscan might look like a lot of money for a black box and a few wires but compared to similar systems with the same capabilities it's as cheap as chips, trace a couple of faults and its probably payed for itself. Admittedly it's Rover focused but so is this forum and if you have a fleet of various marques you can probably afford better.

Pscan is a no-brainer. I see so many threads where people are searching around for solutions to running problems that can be one or more of 100's of causes. Spend money on guesstimated fixes whereas Pscan can give you a much more focused approach.
Yes, Although I haven't got to grip with the full scale of PScan I'm really happy that I bought mine. I have an obd2 reader which wouldn't read anything. So after a trip to the garage who didn't fix my problem and cost all but the same price as the unit I'm feeling confident I can keep an eye on my tf as good as any garage.

I can’t really justify the price of a new Pscan (just had a look on the website). I’ll keep my eyes scanned for a used one!
Thanks for all the advice - I can see the benefits!

I didn’t. Seems the way to go is Pscan. Luckily I’ve not needed a diagnostic tool to date 🤞

I would doubt very much if you will find any DIY affordable system (other than a Chinese pirated knock-off) that will let you do very much to the MG6, and certainly I am not aware of any compatibility with pscan for doing such an operation.

I would expect that you will need access to to dealer/professional level equipment to deal with something such as an electronic handbrake.

Pscan was developed specifically for pre 2001 MG and Rover cars which were not fully OBD2 compliant, and whilst further compatibility and functionality with a wider range of models has gradually been developed, the modern MGs are outside of the scope of what the developer was trying to achieve.

What I ordered above is genuine and works with Google play app..Why pay silly money ..It works on all SAIC MG and all other vehicles
I've got the Aldi scanner from the first post, works fine and has been useful with our Skoda to check and clear codes as far as it goes. My F is too old to use it with.
