AUDI UK dealers are under an avalanche of orders for the R8 - the fastest car ever made by the company. The 187mph mid-engined two-seater "Super TT" costs from £76,825 and first deliveries will begin in July for buyers who put down deposits last summer, even before the car was seen at Paris motor show in the autumn.
The first year's allocation of 450 cars has been taken up and Audi UK has managed to increase the total for the next 12-months to 750 cars.
It will be sold by all of the 120 Audi UK dealers but they will pass on the business to 45 specialist R8 dealers nationwide.
The 420PS V8 with permanent four wheel drive and standard six speed manual box can also be specified with a six-speed R tronic sequential box for £82,025, and magnetic suspension system is available as on the smaller TT.
James Millett, product manager for the Audi R8, said: "It has been an outstanding success for us, even before it was seen in public for the first time last year.
"We have taken over 1,000 deposits and we are now turning these into orders and sold 650 cars already at an average delivered price of £90,000.
"People have such high expectations for the car and we are delighted it has also been calculated to maintain 47pc residual value over two years.
In the UK, initial orders are 55% for the manual but, in Europe, it's the R tronic which is taking 75% of sales.
