Drove my mates audi a3 1.9 tdi yesterday and even though the mg derv is quicker to 60 (According to parkers) the audi felt more torque'y (not even a real word but it will do lol) under the 2k rev mark. My derv feels sluggish then hits 2k and it pulls ok. I use the torque app the maf sensor isnt the best but still working reads about 11 when idling. even unplugged it and still feels a bit sluggish. This just normal on these?

they shouldn't be sluggish at all, though obviously things improve a lot when you're on boost!

I expect in many cases it's down to a poor maf sensor, but in all fairness modern diesels are a very subjective comparison because they generally have small vnt units which spool very quick.

Cars completely standard just now.

Mine just feels sluggish really till 2k then it pulls good. Ive tried unplugging the maf etc and remains the same and the torque app shows the maf sensors working. Every car is different i suppose. Maybe audi have just low down torque?

Your maf should be reading around 20 on idle and 200 when you apply the loud pedal. Have you tried unpluggin the maf sensor to see if there is a improvement? You will be capped to 4k but you'll know if your maf is the problem.

it's not just max bhp it's the curve as well - you can make a car feel a whole wad different without even touching top boost fuelling, our turbos are small and can only do 150bhp as we know, but if you don't mind being restricted to 150 it's the turbo to have because with just a slight excess of fuel (keeping smoke to almost zero, but with a slight puff/haze on full load) they don't have spool quick, you'll be developing some serious boost in the 1500-2000rpm range which isn't bad at all for a wastegated affair.

But you need more fuel to do it, otherwise the turbo doesn't have the energy, hence it feels lazy.
