Bite the bullet and pay the money for an HPI check. It's worth it.
Sure when i need a full check or somthing shows up on the free ones i will " bite the bulllet " for a full comprehensive check.Bite the bullet and pay the money for an HPI check. It's worth it.
Just what I was about to post to get basic details....then do double check the VIn, engine number etc shown on the V5 to what is on the car. If all seems well and you want to buy it then go for an HPI or equivalent check...you can find them cheaper through some places like RAC I think....worth an internet search to fins the cheapest deal.I don't think there's any free HPI-type checks but there's some that are very cheap (£3 or so).
If you need to check whether the car matches the reg, use the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry facility here
Great, i tried this and it comes back with " Vehicle details could not be found ", so any ideas what this might mean ?I don't think there's any free HPI-type checks but there's some that are very cheap (£3 or so).

You can also get a MOT history from the DVLA here

Gives you the full information since the electronic testing started, including mileage, any failure points and the garage it was tested at.
Handy really, as you can see where you car was first registered and has travelled too, as well as how many miles it did each year - you can deduce how many miles each owner did by how far apart the garages are.
Of course if you have a FSH for the car you intend to buy it's not needed but it may be a handy check to make sure its not fake.
