Less than a week after I got her back on the road (thanks to Jon) and it's all over.

Wednesday afternoon I was driving back from visiting a friend in Crewe, made it to within 5 miles of home only to have a stupid bint in a Volvo XC-90 drive straight into the back of me coming up to a roundabout. She openly admitted "I wasn't looking at the road" so liability isn't an issue.

Not a scratch on the volvo but my poor car is ruined :(

My insurance wouldn't even entertain the idea of repairing it (they sent a scrapper within an hour of the accident. I refused to let them take it)

Her insurance have agreed to get an estimate done so I'm hoping she won't be written off.

****** as hell, oh and its my birthday tomorrow :eek:uch:

I would start looking around for what the car may be worth and finding examples. A single rear panel on an F is an insurance right off. Damage sounds extensive and unfortuatly wont be worth it. Hard luck mate and dont accept insurance first offer.

its not

we had a bumper , crash cans , and exhaust - plus boot panel pulled out - done last year on a 1999 F on insurance

if the op has both rear quarters gone then the boot floor will be shot so im afraid its dead to insurance - its mendabe if you can diy it

Thats horrible mate. Since she was blatently driving very poorly - sue her. I think a big car like that vs a small MGF would cause some back problems for sure.

im pretty sure they will write her off as they will only replace broken parts with new, not repair or used parts.

I think she could be fixed for not a lot as the rear quarter panels are only minor damage, the rear part of the bodyshell could be pulled out (the inner part of it hasnt been damaged (at least not visibly) and the boot/bumper are easy to get second hand. the exhaust needs a little welding too.

Im going to do everything i can to keep her from the scrapyard!

Oh no...really sorry to hear that...like others have said, fight to get her insurers to pay, after all it should be on HER insurance, not yours so you probably stand a bit better chance...fingers crossed for you :)

oh and if you haven't already done so, get yourself checked out at the docs after a rear shunt - just to get it logged in case you develop problems which aren't immediately apparant- hope you're ok

My back and neck were sore within an hour so I went to a&e after my car was collected, got some painkillers and told to go to see my gp if its not better in a couple of days. It's not long ago I was still having physiotherapy for when my last F was written off by someone else (September)

I've put it through her insurance since they have agreed to have an estimate done for the work, whereas mine just wanted to scrap it straight away.

Dont ask how i know but back and neck pain after a rear ender, you are looking at a claim for injury alone up to a sum of ÂŁ2000.Itake it you have told your insurnce company you were hurt and have been to Doctors.Iam sure you know if you produce receipts for all costs,as in the price of your pain killers you can claim for that if you wanted to go that far with it.Best you know where you stand when you have an accident,My daughter had a small bump in a car thought she was fine and settled the claim turns out shes done her back in proper it seems so make sure you get checked out fully forget the car at the mo your more important.

oh the back and neck pain has to last a minimum of 2 weeks, they rang my wife after 12 days and said how was she feeling , and replied oh much better at least my neck doesnt hurt now......and they promptly closed the case
bloody insurance companies
the thing is even reshelling is going to cost minimum ÂŁ1500 , shell , respray etc
i think this is 1 where the great scrapyard in the sky calls and looking at all your pics it doesnt look like you have the space to strip the car yourself
how bad is the TT because was looking into quad the end pipes on mine
sorry yes i am being a vulture
all the best finding another one , even if it has a us engine yours has just had the hg done so maybe a good cheap one with engine gone the change it over
ideas ideas

I was about to say what James already has, highly unlikely that the insurers will null and void the claim, agreed it is common practice for these kind of clauses to exsist, and I have no doubt that her quick admittance of guilt was more to do with her knowning what she was doing wrong at the time ie. using her phone, and admitting fault will divert any investigations otherwise.

Plus the fact that she rearended you places the blame with her anyway and the insurance co. will see it that way and go for a quick resolution, if they wanted to they legally could void the insurance for careless driving but if the Police aren't prosecuting her for that its highly unlikely they will persue it otherwise about 60% of claims would never be paid out!

You are spot on, when handling claims with LBG we had to check that the police were not prosecuting the claimaint or offending party with any charges, otherwise we were instructed to pass to on to a full loss adjuster who would attempt to void the policy, same goes for speeding too if you are prosecuted for fast driving after a traffic investigation.

Well she has now been officially written off, repair estimate was just shy of ÂŁ4500. Had a few quotes locally based on the engineers report and they are still far in excess of what they are paying out, not to mention the fact that they want almost 700 quid to buy her back.

I'm quite ****** off with them as you can probably imagine but I have managed to persuade them to let me remove all modified parts as long as I replace them with standard.

I have almost all my old standard parts save for a few so if anyone has a mk2 f or tf centre console, speedo surround and air vents that they could send special delivery then please let me know what you want for them as I need them asap (they are taking her away on friday)

Thanks for everyone's advice and sentiments!

No good to hear Chris, just a reminder I'd take the radiator off it I don't think they'd notice

yes I figured as much, however I've stripped everything that's slightly desirable/useful (modified or mk2 parts) and replaced with mk1 bits. The insurance company said they didn't mind as long as nothing was missing.

My gf's F now has a nice shiny interior, leather seats, "nearly new" glass screened roof, brand new toyos and various other goodies ;)

Thanks for the message, I'm not sure if I actually posted in your thread (I really ought to stop reading without posting in threads...) but I remember reading it and meeting your dad + mishmash at the Friends Round London.

Have you found another F yet? I've found a TF I've fallen in love with however the seller is proving very difficult to contact...

Happy MGing :)
