Have just had the 25 serviced, MOT'd and new intercoolers hoses and OMG what difference, the car has easily twice the performance is quieter and smoother.. ya even get a kick in the back when you floor it.

I thought the problems were down to the MAF sensor and tried replacing it only to find it made no difference, so I left the MAF disconnected..

Well with the new hoses the MAF was reconnected and its running grand.

Am hoping to see a dramatic improvement in fuel economy too as it was creeping ever lower to around 250 miles a tank full.. ouch!! esp when I commute 100 miles a day to and from work.

MOT wise, apart from a new tail box and headlight bulb it flew through... which is not bad for a hard used, 100k, eight year old car.

you cant underestimate what a service will do to your car! Was this service an oil change or anything else? The way that post was made it sounds like you didnt do it yourself, and if not its something you should learn! Really easy will save you loads meaning the savings can be put towards more regular servicing, millers oil, engine flush etc!

My problem is having the time and inclination to do the work myself, also in having time to have the car off the road.. so I booked it in while i was away at a conference in London.. normally i do repairs and servicing myself.

I think most of the performance loss was down to the intercooler hose, there was a great big chunk torn out. quite well hidden too, seems quite logical, I think I had tried 3 MAF's.. without success... possibly because the MAF wasn't the cause of the prob.

Main point is that if you think your MAF has gone, check the intercooler hoses first..

Just need some new springs and shocks now.. and the babes complete for a bit..
