Rover 214 SI alternator problem...Need some help

Hi, I am new at this forum

I have a rover 214 si from 1997.
Yestarday i saw that the alternator has two wires, a thick one a a thin one (small and big).
The thin one is disconnected from the alternator, i think the screw is broken.
There is no sign or any new light displayed
My question is:
What is the function of this wire?
What problems i may have with it disconnected?
Can the screw be fixed?

Thanks
sorry for any english error, i write better in Portuguese:lol:

It will be for the charge indicator light on the dash. If your alternator fails you won't get any indication on the dash.
I also don't think the battery light will illuminate either when the ignition is in position 2.

Ok, so is only for information??
No problem in using the car without this wire connected?

I also don't think the battery light will illuminate either when the ignition is in position 2.
Yes the light is OFF

I thought that wire could be related with start/stop charging the battery!

Thanks
