air filter

i have a piper cross air filter for my mgf thats never been used
should i fit this or stick with the orginal one
what advance would it have over the standard one and also i have been told it will help cool the engine is this right

If its enclosed you may gain a bhp or 2, you'll also gain a nice induction noise. If its not enclosed you'll loose bhp because you'll be sucking in warm air, engines like cold air.
if i leave the old filter housing in this would draw in cold air ?

depends were the feed pipe is located, the usual place to relocate it is in the near side air duct.
Is it a cone filter? Why not just buy an enclosed box to put it in and ducting, they are as cheap as chips. The F oem filter box is seriously restricted, so it's best to change it.
