Do any of you guys have any recommendations of a firm to carry out a re-gas on a Rover 618 in the Rotherham area of South Yorkshire. I have made a few enquiries that suggest that some firms may not do a proper job. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Aircon work

Hi,

Well Im glad I havent got aircon as its something less to worry about on older cars .
Seems theres lots jumping on the aircon service and repair field now which causes problems for all.
From what Ive experienced aircon work is a more specialized field and I would tend to look for aircon only specialist, car or commercial.
Having a set of gauges,a vac pump and some gas, does not a aircon engineer make.
You need your vehicle regassing,so youve had a leak of some sort.
Basically from the little I know, the system needs pressure testing to source and make good any leaks , think they use nitrogen gas for this,
System check of compressor/pump ,oil level, electrics and any recommended aircon fllter changes as per manufacturer spec.
When thats ok and system gas tight, its vac pump to get all moisture out of system, its essential that its vac pumped for a sufficient time and then recharged with correct ammount of refridgerant gas .
Then double checked for leaks and performance.
For me I would try and find an aircon engineer thats maybe doing the aircon work for local car dealers, maybe ring a few dealers ask who does there aircon work, or Im sure theres a trade association that will list someone.
Also look at commercial aircon specialists like those that service coach and bus trade,as they will be well skilled in aircon.
In Doncaster theres i believe Webasto on White Rose Way ,they are a coach and bus aircon firm and they may do some car aircon work or can advise, worth a call maybe.
Lastly if your working on your car remember any dismantling of aircon pipework etc is a big No No!!!.
The gas must be recovered from the system first by proffesional and not vented to atmosphere.

hope this may help.
