....today I finally came across an MGF at the side of the road.

Coming back from school towards the traffic lights was a red mgf up on the pavement with its hazzard lights on and its boot/bonnet (the back one) open. I cycled passed on the pavement and see steam coming out the coolant tank, the person must have been in the car...
...Then at the traffic lights, I thought that seeing as I lived just around the corner I would go and ask her if she wanted me to go and get a bottle of water from my house....so being the decent citizen I am (or possibly just because it was an MG lol) I turned around and went back....she was standing over the bonnet/boot. I asked her if its run out of coolant, but it hadn't run out of coolant but had overheated and was bubbling/boiling over.

After mentioning head gasket, I told her that if it is the head gasket then dont pay out loads - some garages rip you off...anyay she had called her husband and he was coming out so I only spoke for a few minutes and went home.

Thinking now - I should have told her to get a new coolant tank cap, because that can be a cause of boiling/bubbling cant it?

Just thought I would post my little story - just because I see loads of broken down cars from some makes that are thought as much more reliable....but have never seen "one of those unreliable MG's" broken down

I know what you mean.. I do lots of Motorway driving (M56) and have only ever seen ONE MGF. The cause? Flat tyre ;)

On the other hand, I have seen enough Corsa's parked up with Hazards flashing to fill up a small scrapyard!

My daughters beetle died of HGF and she rolled into a layby not far from home, we shot down there to see what we could do to sort it out. I popped home to get some water and oil in the vain hope we could get it home.

While I was gone a lad pulled into the layby to make a phone call, he was in a wide load escort van. He offered to have a look and by the time I had got back was offering a tow. He went back to his yard, swapped vehicles and got the disco, towed me back and then refused a generous drink in thanks...........

The world needs more heros like him.
