mg zs+ td. using the fob, it will unlock the car but about 50% of the time i have to lock/unlock again using the fob for the immobiliser to deactivate. think it could be the battery in the fob. is it just a case of changing the battery or will the fob need to be re synched and what/how do you re synch. i only have one fob and no owners manual. cheers.

Would you by any chance be of the "They all do that mindset" .....

Rascal.

More seriously, replaced the battery in many Rover/MG Fobs and no problems, even those long lost by previous owners which I've found under the car's carpets. Just ensure you put the new battery ( batteries ~ some need two buttons) in correctly paying attention to the +/- orientation .....

thanks for the replies folks. dont think its due to hgf though ?! purchased two new fobs and had them programmed in today. still had to press unlock againin the car on one occasion. this has probably been asked before but is it possible to have the immobiliser disconnected/deactivated on my mg zs tdi ? my father in laws discovery started playing up so a garage disconnected the immobiliser but the remoite central locking and alarm still work. any ideas ?

if you de-activate the alarm/immobiliser you must turn the ignition key within 30 seconds to start the car, if on the other hand you just unlock the car and go back to it say 2 mins later the car will still be unlocked but it will engage the immobiliser 30 seconds after it was initially unlocked, its just a security device to prevent theft if the car was left unlocked by mistake.
So you just got to remember to start the car within 30 seconds of unlocking.......

ive been having the same trouble today. instead of rearming then disarming with the fob i turned the key back then tried again, nothing. turned key back again, still nothing. on the third attempt it fired up !. throughout the day it has been starting first time, then second, third and fourth. beginning to think it may be starter motor related ? whilst having warranty work done to it , the gearbox has been removed/replaced. could it be a loose connection ? any ideas. ???????????????

Hi all, yes patpending you are correct i did mean by using the remote plip, when you unlock the car by using the remote plip it will unlock and deactivate the immobiliser, if after 30 seconds you have not started the car the immobiliser will re-activate itself for security reasons........

Now then if it does do this you need to turn the key back to its first position and again press the unlock, this will deactivate the immobiliser and the key can then be turned to start the car......theres no need to re-lock and then unlock, just press unlock before you turn the key to start the car.

It is a pain at times but i wouldn't reccomend trying to get rid of this part of the system, how many times have you forgot to lock the car and didn't realise till the next time you visited it, i know i have on a number of acassions and been pleased that the system re-activates itself by itself if you get my drift...........

Another pain is the relocking of the doors if you don't open them in 30 seconds of unlocking the car........i nearly broke the handle off the door one day after i unlocked the car then realised i'd forgot something in the house so went back in got what i needed relocked the house then without thinking just tried to get in the car but it had re-locked itself whilst i was in the house........i laughed about it afterwards, but again it is a good part of the security system the ZS has.

By the way mines a MkII 180 so i don't entirley know if parts of this will relate to all the range of ZS's but i would have thought it will apply to all MKII 180's at least..................

cleaned terminals, still acting up. tried the 2nd gear rocking technique. started !. trip to local motor factors, relieved myself of ÂŁ140.... took car to pieces, fitted new starter motor, been ok ever since ( fingers crossed ) by the way, that lower bolt ( 2.0 td ), is a bit of a fiddle to undo. not really enough room to swing a torque wrench. too many pipes, wires, sensors, kitchen sinks etc. hopefully thats it for a while ( see aircon post ).
