advice for a potential new owner please

hi all
we're looking to buy a 75/ZT diesel, potentially found a ZT thats fitting the bill however.......
really like the idea of the seat memory function from the 75, is it possible to retro fit it to the ZT seats? either by replacing with the whole seat or swapping the swabs from the ZT to the 75 bases... would a T4 be needed to enable it or is it just a total no go idea ?
the cars got just over 120,000 both pumps have been replaced but not the clutch that we're aware of, is that sort of about the clutch lifespan and if so is it right that ive heard you can get them replaced for about ÂŁ400
anything else we should be aware of or looking in particular?

one other thing that may seem a bit strange......
if we fancied the softer ride of the 75 is it a big job to swap the suspension over and has it been done before?
we both have TFs so the softer ride may be a nice option ;)

some zts come with the full wiring loom, so under the front seats there are multiplugs for the electric heated leather seats,and above the ashtray behind there will be multiplugs for elec rear blind and heated seats etc... ive fitted these to both my zts and no coding is required..they are plug and play... as for clutch, the job can cost ÂŁ400 plus, but that price is coming down and metal masters and slaves are ou there... and ive never had an issue with the zt suspension, its firm but still very comfortable...

There's a good how to on swapping seats here Phil.I used it to help me install ZT full leather electric seated seats in my car.I think you'll find the ride very comfortable in the ZT.

If you fancy a spin in my car I can pop over if you like or you can come to me just let me know you're more than welcome.I'm off for the next few days and at home,pm me or give us a bell and we can sort it out.It's not an oil burner but you'll get a good idea of how nice they are to drive.

If you want a soft, sloppy, wallowy ride why not just buy a 75 Estate? Saves loads of hassle and doesn't take a proper ZTT out of circulation.

Paulie ... hows it out of circulation? it'll still be a zt and if it was to be sold it would be put back to standard along with any other mods i did being removed
i'm in the early stages of sussing out what the zt/75 are all about so please bear with me while i explore the options :)

Have two ZTs ( both 1.8t ) now and the suspension is nowhere near as firm as that on say an MG ZS and nowhere near as firm and harsh as on my MGF.

Live with the ZT a while to see how it feels then decide.

Compared to the lightweight K-Series, that's a heavy BMW lump in the Diesel ZTs and 75s. Keep that in mind when considering changing suspensioin rates.

There are two types of ZT suspension. Early ones had firmer suspension - they then softened it as standard and made the original an option.

If it is a later one it wil probably have the softer suspension which is firmer than a 75 but not that much so.

I can't help but feel that if you want a 75 you should just buy a 75.

We have two ZT 180s (02 & 52 plates) which have the 'sports' suspension, and they are noticeably firmer on the road than our ZT-T which although the same age, has the 'softer' ride. Not driven a 75, but I guess the huge tyres will have as much bearing on the ride as suspension components?
