My friend's low mileage R25 suffers from excessive foot brake movement before the brakes "bite". If the hand-brake is applied slightly all the slack comes out of the brake pedal. I've been told that the rear drum shoes are self adjusting but having searched all the threads on the forum I have seen posts that suggest otherwise? Its an early 2003 series 3 1.4 model. Can anyone advise?

Many thanks

Sounds like the self adjuster has seized. Remove the drum and strip everything out, give it all a good clean. Especially the adjuster, do this on both sides. Should solve the problems.

Otherwise your handbrake cable will need adjusting.

Cheers
