Hey peeps,

Well, today i went out to the car and got ready for a trip with som mates to go and get wedding suits :) Anyway, I got in the car and started her up and remmebered i hadnt really checked under the bonnet in a while due to all this bad weather, so popped the bonnet up and coolant looks as though its done down a few mm since i last replaced it all about 6 months ago, and i was parked on a slight angel so just left it, undone the oil cap and DUNDUN DUUUNNNNN..... mayo on the cap :( i thought ahhhhh ****e!! can this possibly be!

This car has been a god send, ran beautifully and never had an issue with the temps and head gasket at all. i was heart broken! :( Anyway, i cleaned it up and put the cap back on. i ran my rfinger around the inside of the bit you put oil in and no mayo at all, checked the dipstick, no mayo, oil looks clean and topped up. No coolant in oil/ no oil in coolant.

I do do a lot of small trips to work and i dont let the car warm up properly so i think it might just be condensation. Anyway drove about 6 miles to shop and the car was struggling to warm up. It was about 1/4 the way warm and thats it. it only heated up to half way when i was already there.

Im trying to keep this short for you guys. I checked the cap again when i got home and no mayo, the car on the way back got up to temp fine and never over heated or anything. stayed stanble etc. I did have my heater on on the way there which is why i think it didnt warm up so fast and it is freezing outside.

What do you guys think about the mayo? it was only a tiny bit, not everywhere and no other signs of hgf ... why was it struggling to reach tempreture on the way there? So scared and i love my car and have spent so much on it, really dont want this to be the end

Thanks in advance for any help guuys :)

A small amount of mayo on a car used for lots of cold short journies is often nothing to worry about.

Keep an eye on the oil and coolant but otherwise I'd not worry unduely.

So long as the temp gauge sits midway once warmed up (and doesn't drop when travelling at speed) then the thermostat is probably fine.

Well thats another thing, i posted a thread up here a little while back saying if the car is warming up and i put my foot down a bit the temp would drop a little, but when it gets up to temp it des stay there and never moves, is that normal mate?

And thank you about the mayo advice. I do just run it round to work and back and never really let it get up to temp for that kind of journey, youve settled my heart a little now :)

another .. worrying drive!

okey guys a got a little update here. I just drove to pick up my gf from work adn the car warmed up nicely, checked coolant and oil all fine. no mayo etc. anyway picked her up, car nice and hot. went shopping at asda. parked for about half hour. drove home and car again got up to temp fine. but i decided to put my foot down and push up the revs abit to about 4/5000 and the temp dropped all the way to the bottom ... then warmed up again!!

**** sake, it never over heats and drives lovely when warm and hot but as soon as i now put my foot down, loose all temp and then picks back up slowely. I really dont think its the head gasket as no other signs of faliure. i replaced the IMG a few months ago and all is good there. I think now the thermostat has ****** up.???? any other ideas on this??

If it is the thermo, ill be replacing it tomorrow come rain or sun i dont care, i refuse to drive it at all at this rate. im just too scared of making it worse.
