Afternoon all.. as many of you will be aware, my F has been off the road for getting on for a year now. Firstly the clutch went back in March, and I did not have the money to have it fixed, this was done some time ago by Saint Russell, and the car was them MOT'd and subsequently failed back in September (IIRC) and has been awaiting further funds since.
I am now pretty close to being in a position to get the car MOT'd and back on the road, but my concern is, the car sitting idle for a year uncovered cannot have done it any good, and is it going to cost me a fortune to get other stuff done that has occurred due to it sitting idle.

I had a friend who did most of my mechanical work who unfortunatley passed away just before Christmas, so I now have to make a decision, should I cut my losses and get rid, or is the car pretty much ok.. What I am essentially asking, is for someone who is local to me (Sandhurst) if they would be happy to spend an hour or so going over the car as a sort "pre" MOT Check, to see if it's worth continuing with?

Too far away from you to be of help, but I am sure there will be someone along shortly,

Yes these cars need to be driven, but I cant see how much harm there canl be from it standing round, other than your brake calipers will be rusted, but hopefully not pitted, they should clean up with a bit of braking going to the mot.

Best of luck with it, you have to keep it anyway, as its one of only a very few being amaranth.:broon:

To be honest I'm of the school of thought its best to put it in for an MOT an see what it gets pulled up for, I know the test is ment to be the same over the whole country but its down the individual tester

Just make sure you put it through a test station that gives a free re-test within 10 working days, as some charge if its anything more than a tyre or a bulb

I would assume that as long as you have corrected all the failed points it should be ok, as Jon says, get it down there and see what they say.

Hopefully someone nearer will be along and offer you an hour of their time :)

Good luck with it, now get the bugger on the road and drive it :)

I would think the only/main thing affected may be the brakes with it sitting for so long.

My Rover 25 Streetwise barely moved in six years.

We cleaned the brakes up, replaced a rotten exhaust and fitted a new battery, (fired up first time!) I then put it in for it's MOT and it passed no problem and has been my daily driver ever since. :)
