Jsut a quickie. i have had to install the rover 5as unit into my mini as it goes hand in hand with the MEMS ecu. it all runs fine etc but i only have 1 fob. and im paranoid about loosing it, so its currently gaffer-taped to the 5as unit! (there is another imobaliser wired in, dont worry!)

however the 5as imobaliser is uber-secure so id like to be able to use it. is it possible to clone a fob? or can i take my 5as, ecu and fob and get another fob programmed in? Bear in mind the car is running a custom loom, and i have no diag plug or any of that nonsence.

my 5as unit is the 1 where the fob jsut has to be close to the unit for it to work, you dont need to go hitting buttons or anything.(97 rover 400 donor)

Speak to your dealer. You may well be able to take the unit into them and have it done. Seem to remember someone in the past saying they turned up at their dealers with the 5AS unit in a bag and had it done.

I'm not certain that these plips can be cloned - the 5AS unit has to learn each plip in turn.

You could try one of these new-age key shops - some town centre garages and auto electrical specialists seem to have invested in the hi-tech kit to do certain plips. I know our local one can do Peugeot ones.....

If you have passive re-immobilisation, you will need a late plip - I can't recall the version number thought....it defo ain't 3TXA or TXB....IIRC

Somebody else help me out!!?

Yeah, just make sure you get a late plip, otherwise it won't passively disarm the immobiliser = hassle!

Just buy a fob of Ebay for about a tenner then go to Rover to get it reprogrammed. Only costs £25.
Making sure it's the correct type first, of course!

Tip - shop around for plip programming prices!
