Just come back from a motorway trip...

Was driving in 5th at around 60MPH....wanted to go into the fast lane, so changed down to fourth and brought my speed up to 70MPH with revs at 4.5k, then attempted to select 5th again to achieve a nicer ride but got 3rd!

My revs immediately spiked and went up to almost 7 thousand revs but i took it out of gear before it went any higher...could I have caused any damage to the engine?

Obviously there was no big bang but I was wondering whether any damage could have been done despite there not being one...

stress!! :(

Lol Neil - I’m embarrassed you've seen this :err:

I was still worrying about it on the way home lol... I have ever so slight OCD I reckon...

Thanks for earlier - your car sounded awesome can't wait to get mine on - it was a pleasure to meet you btw... my TT arrived home safely you'll be pleased to know - the dust cover cushioned any bumps I think ;)

As for the missed gear, I will try and accept that everything is okay... :sad2:

I think if it was going to go bang it would have done it there and then to be honest.
As long as it hasn't started feeling like a bag of nails I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I tried to go from 5th to reverse at about 80 before, it didn't like it :)

Thanks for the story lol - 80 to reverse?! that you survived, I am comforted greatly... :D

well on a private road i tried mine through the gears and it'll do 90 in third before it hits the rev limiter so you should be fine :D
phew... so i was good for another 20mph before th revs wouldhave gone to high... that is good to hear...:)

I just didn't want to hurt my nice new car! :)

As said mate, if it was going to happen, you would know about it already, these cars are actually a hell of a lot stronger and more forgiving than their bad press would have you believe.

Bloody fun though isnt it.

So stop worrying and enjoy your car.

You can get to 70 in second in the 160 just before it hits the limit.

These engines enjoy a good thrashing!
Thanks for the re-assurance - with it being new (to me) and with the impression of the K-series being somewhat delicate, i am easily concerned...

But yeah, the acceleration in the 160 is instant enough to really make you chuckle to yourself...great fun.

Hairs on my arms stood up there when reading..........oooouuuch!

I have put my car in reverse many a times, set off,...and crrrkkkkkk......

hope eveything ok,......
Mine did too!

Oh yeah - i very rarely get reverse, so i can relate.

I changed down from forth to third and hit approx 8500. Noticed a slight miss as I went into the pits, just a slight fluffiness ( if there is such a word ). Went out and did the final session opf 5 laps drove home. Next day drove to the workshop where an imediate compresion check was done, nothing on number two. When the workshop took the head off found that one of the valves had bent and snaped but had caught in the valve guide, new valve, reassembled, that was almost a year ago. Very tough engines, just remember that the rev limiter works on the way up NOT down.
