I have a 1997 414.

When I start the car from cold, it starts first time but tends to spit a bit in all gears when under 3000rpm until it warms up, when it works correctly.

I have changed the air filter because it was bad, and also checked the spark plugs, which turned out to be ok.

Is there anything else I should look at, or am I looking at HGF?

Where is this located on the car?
I have the same problem on my 1996 Rover 414, havent got round to fixing it yet but I believe the coolant temp sensor is located on the front right hand side of the engine as you face the car. It is brown and faces the radiator. I think it is on one of the elbows of the coolant system. I havent looked properly for it, but something tells me it is there.
