right.... i've got 214si which is bog standard as far as the engine is concerned. I love the car and don't wanna get rid of it, so was weighing up the options for more power:

a) new engine. could get something like this off ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Reconditioned-Engine-1800-cc-K-Series_W0QQitemZ4591727651QQcategoryZ10414QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and chuck it in

b) modify the 1.4 up to a 1.8, about £2k http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk/shop/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=557

c) get an engine from a breakers and chance it, but if it's crap then i'm right up the creek and my paddle is flowing down niagra

d) tuning etc, but on a 1.4 that really doesn't seem worth it!

or any other ideas to add just a bit more punch at not too much cost would be cool!

cheers peeps!

if you choose the 1.8, then youll need a new gearbox aswell as it wont fit the 1.4s.
you seem to have a fair bit of cash lying round, if i were you i go for a 1.6 from a trusted breakers. strip it with new cams, valves etc.
then kit the rest out with induction, throttle bodies etc.
the main question is, do you want to get your hands dirty, and do you have a good mechanical knowledge to carry out the mods yourself.
if not then just buy another car, preferbly the 1.8vvc. imo
