1.8T 160 and KV6 190 - Tips?

Trying to convert a friend of mine to the ZT crowd...
We are going to see two 2003 Zt's

One is a ZT 1.8T with about 55,000 Miles on the clock retailing about £4000
The other is a 190 with 82,000 Miles on the clock hitting in at £3000

The 190 has leather / alcantara combo so is a wee bit higer spec.
Other than that were stumped as to what to go for!

I know about the 1.8T failings more since I had the TF. How does the KV6 hold up milage ways? I Reckon the car will have an 18 Month keeping period and will cover about 20,000
Will the 190 see 100k easily or would he have to budget for some big bills?

what are good bargaining chips when dealing with these. Any crazy Service possibilities to look out for?

Any help appreciated. The KV6 would be the preference but looking for affordable fun motoring the 160 is equally as tempting!

Well, you know what the chances of HGF on the 1.8 are, whereas the V6 is very unlikley. Personally I'd have the 190 anyway, but check the obvious of a leaking thermostat housing and of course the belts will need doing, just due to age as well as nearly there for mileage, unless you have proof that they have been done of course!

Other than that it's down to condition and personal choice, but as I say I'd go with the 190 anyway.

Regards, Rob.
And life expectancy of the 190? I know my derv will do another 100k before it dies

As with any engine, it's down to how it's been treated.

Driven nicely and with regular oil & filter & a good oil, the engine should be good for 150k+ I would ahve thoight, some have done far more.

Obvious question about them - what age? Only reason I'm asking is because I just bought my 51 plate 190 for £1,120 on e-bay (and there are a LOT on there) with (alledgedly!!!) 69k... ok there's no service history but truth be told I was going to service it anyway (the only extra will be the cam-belts) so providing there's nothing nasty in the wings so to speak I'm looking at the car costing me effectively £1,700(ish)... just food for thought

good point! both seem to be a bit high priced so he an use that in the bartering!
the three cambelts to change are roughly £600 also, vis motor problems and inlet manifold rattle on the V6,

190 all the way!! with its low tickover you can drive every where in 3rd gear lol, 1st is nearly pointless!! i love it!! and the noise :)

I have to admit that it is a little ,or revvy (ok a LOT!!) than I am used to, I'm just getting used to trying to get it some beans and NOT changing up at 3.5/5k :)
Definately the 190, loving mine, paid £2500 for one with 64k and fsh in vgc, less than a week ago.
ok so general concencious is that its overpriced!
Figo,
In your locality Fintray motors have a nice looking (from passing) diesel ZT on a 53 plate in le mans green?. He has had it for a few months and is looking for £3.5k, but must be keen to shift given the right offer. I think it has rain sensitive wipers so might be reasonably specced
ill put that on the short list for a vist then cheers :)
I picked up a 2005 MG ZT 190 SE with around £10k in extras on top of the SE pack, 103k miles, full service history and 30days comprehensive warranty for £2,500.

Seen another SE a while after with less miles and in black go for similar. £3,000 sounds quite exorbitant.
So then folks gimme an estimate on the price I should aim for? £2222
£2,300 for an 03 1.8T max. Around the same for a 190, unless it's seriously specced up/monogram.

Assuming you aren't wanting something with 10-40k miles, I wouldn't pay more than that - and based on people trying to sell their 190's and 1.8T's here and on the other site, those figures are born out.
Well that's the original two test driven. Mate pulled out since he got called offshore but I went along to test the 1.8T and the V6-190 .....

The 1.8T was first and overall impressions was good. The four pot turbo pulled well, revved happily and hauled the Zt-t easily. Not really punchy but a fine engine non the less.

The ZT 190 next.....
I'm in love. That engine goodness I love it.
Funnily I was also offered a good price for my CDTi if I purchased the 190....

Thoughts people???

Seriously considering this now...

Has one or two minor issues thought that I would like some input on.

1: the Digital readout. Its not like my current CDTi with its illumiated symbols it has a digital readout and its seems that the LCD screen is corrupted.

2. the odometer displays Err. where the trip computer should be - Any ideas??

3. Rear Parking sensor issue.

4. Timing belts may be due. how much should I negotiate for this? (In parts and labour)

Oh and what do you think about the Alloys.. I want to swap over my Hairpins as they look "rarer" ... thoughts anyone?
