Yep, the ecu... I haven't done it myself but people has said it will run. They are cheap enough to pick up for a 1.8 though. Just get one that has 5as and fobs and the immob ring.

 

while youve got the engine out it would be a good idea to change the cambelt, waterpump and tensioners, also change the clutch both are alot easier while its out of the car.

the 1.8 engine will mate up to the r65 gearbox but youl have to take it easy so ideally youd want the pg1 that is standard on the 1.8.

idealy youd need : block, gearbox, driveshafts, new cambelt, water pump, tensioners, ecu 5as and fob set.

after the 1.8 block is in it will need a remap.

i would change all that anyway tbh. whats the 5as set?

 

Might as well buy a 160 engine and box with ecu. It doesn't stop, once you start major work you might as we go balls out.

 

I have a 1.8 120 ECU pack for sale for £50 if you want... Will have to wait for me to go back to camp to get it if you want it though.

 

The R65 will be fine with a 1.8, just don't do too many racing starts. There is a couple of people who are running a 1.8VVC with an R65.

 

A lot of the metro guys use the R65 with the VVC conversion. They do last but they can also break.

 

Key fob and immobiliser. They are matched to the ecu.

 

ecu 5as and keyfob are all coded together thats how the immobiliser and alarm work.

if you just swap the ecu it wouldnt start unless you had it re coded

id be looking for proof of the headgasket being done.

and proof that its actually a 1.8.... besides the engine number im not sure theres any way to visually tell if its a 1.8 or a 1.4

 

I'm currently selling a 1.8 engine, ecu/5as/fobs on ebay, but it needs the head gasket and water pump doing. Easy enough though with the engine out of the car!
