Q: What's the difference between a BMW (Porsche, Audi etc.) and a porcupine? A: The porcupine has the *****s on the outside.

I work and do business with a lot of Aussies. IMPO they will be glad to see new MG's for sale, regardless of where the parts came from!

Quote from John: I find every Chinese car being badge'd a MG an abomination. I understand your feeling, but what's the alternative? For decades US enthusiasts have been rebuilding their MG's over and over from parts, including the rather radical action of installing running gear on a Heritage...

Herzlos: "I guess a lot of the large estate owners are now moving to SUV's as has been suggested." So where does an MG SUV fit into the picture? Is it an abomination or just a good business move? Personally, I think SUV's belong in the **** camp.....

Davidj: Thanks for the heads up. I'm happy to report that I found some open road today (no mean feat in the worker's paradise) and managed to get going fast enough to kick in the rev limiter and the speed governor. The rev limiter seems to be an ignition cut out. It's pretty abrupt at 6850...

So, I'm trying to fathom this thread.... We want an MG that can haul a spare motor in the boot while towing a caravan and achieving top of class CO2 emissions while using a standby generator motor from a delivery van? Is there even a standard for skidpad performance while towing a caravan...

new160, You make an excellent point. There are lots of things to tow besides a caravan. Has anyone driven a diesel MG6? My only experience with a diesel is with a Golf TDI 2.0. It has a lot of low end grunt, but it's not really very rewarding to wind it out. I do enjoy the 700 miles between...

It's not clear to me how big the market is for a caravan toting MG6. Maybe it's all part of the diesel attraction. I have a Golf TDI for a company car and it's efficient but not very lovable. Make mine petrol, please!
  11. What could they be doing?

That's the thing about MG's in the colonies. We don't always get the good stuff.

Only for the old bank account! Seriously, in Turbo spec, the 6 turns and brakes better than it goes. I think 200hp would be a closer match to the chassis. The motor is smooth and sips petrol sparingly, but it sounds like it's sucking thru a straw and blowing thru a sponge. I can hear the turbo...
  13. What could they be doing?

    MG 6
I would just be happy to see some aftermarket kit like an updated impellor to increase boost, a modified ecu chip, a cold air intake and maybe a free flow turbo exhaust. The 1.8 T would be more fun with about 50 more HP. More power would overwhelm the brakes and suspension requiring further...

I've had my MG6 for about ten days now and it's a great car. Frankly, the abuse being heaped on this car on this forum is a mystery to me. We never got the Rover ZT/ZR/TF cars in the states, so maybe I'm missing something. My car was clearly designed in England and there are something like 20...

    MG 6
Have you considered any more conventional mods as a less radical alternative to an LPG conversion? I only just took delivery on my 6, so I haven't established mpg figures, but on other cars I own it has been possible to pick up 10% to 15% with a K&N filter, an ECU remap and a chin spoiler. I...

IMHO SAIC is developing the MG5 Sport and the Turbo motor specifically to meet the requirements of the more demanding Euro market. :bsmeter:
